One of the best bookstores in New Zealand. The owner Doris Mousdale knows books inside and put. She reviews new books on the Radio with much passion and insight. My favourite independent bookshop in Auckland. Highly recommended.
If I could rate a ZERO, I would. Purchased a book via their website on June 21st 2021. No book, no email comms, nothing for 10 days. Sent 2 x follow up emails. Nothing. Found Facebook page and other disgruntled customers. Sent third email threatening Fair Go with screenshots of FB comments. Magically, got a refund almost instantly. Taking money and not sending the purchased product is theft. A fraudulent business that continues to operate an online store but doesn't honour customer purchases. Their website and FB page need to be shut down. Scamming people is illegal and the reputational damage virtually impossible to undo. Their in store customer service feedback comments from patrons are horrific.
I was met with some extremely bad and unwelcoming costumer service. When I was simply taking a picture of a cover of a book I was interested in the elderly woman who I assume to be the owner grabbed me, snatched the book out of my hand and demanded to know what I was doing. She then went to ramble on about how I need to ask her permission. I was confused, felt attacked, and I don't quite like being grabbed, but I apologized and she continued telling me I should have asked her permission. As I left I noticed she along with the man behind the desk glaring at me. 10/10 would NOT reccomend
As other reviewers have stated, customer service was bad... I simply took one photo of the book I was interested in buying for a friend, and I was interrupted by the woman at the counter asking if I took a photo? I said yes and the reason why and she went on a ramble about how I needed to ask her permission... it’s 2018 you better get with the game of technology and how useful it is to get sales. Would not recommend, lots of other better book stores around!!
A delightful small bookshop full of a lovely range of interesting books making it hard to choose from and a breath of fresh air compared to the large corporate book and stationery stores. The staff are very helpful and know their titles so are happy to help and make suggestions. Also great that they are surrounded by excellent cafes. Highly recommended.
I went to this bookstore to buy a book for my 3 year old. He accompanied me there as I let him review the books to ensure he likes them before we buy. Anyway in we go, my son spots a book and we pick it up from the display. I was 7 months pregnant at the time so I felt it would be easier if I sat on a stool while we perused the book. As I was sitting down, the man behind the counter leapt up and ripped the book out of my hands. I looked at him, bemused as he walked back to the counter. From there he proclaimed he could not let us look at the book because people always touch his books, denting and staining them and then his costumers complained they are damaged. ?!!! Everything in his manner was so high handed and so contemptuous. I was too taken aback and embarrassed to reply that WE ARE potential customers. Instead I left, blushing, feeling like an unworthy little thing. Not the type of shopping experience I'd recommend to anyone.
Purchased a book online when there was still stock available for purchase. I then get a PayPal note the next morning that they are issuing a refund I did not request and will not get my two books. Highly, highly disappointed with this outcome!!! Tried emailing and calling but absolutely no response. Will not be purchasing from them again.
Never have I experienced such bizarrely bad customer service. It was like black book. When I asked where the kids books were he totally ignored my question, sneered at me and very severely told to leave because I was eating. I was in fact eating a small piece of fudge which was very well contained in a paper bag and I'd no intention of touching the books with that hand. I choose to go to independent book stores for the service, to browse and to support small businesses over large online foreign corporations much cheaper to buy from book depository by the way but I won't be back to this one. Awful.
Attended Chris Mousdale’s new novel launch here, wonderful evening, with wonderful people. Nicely curated selection of books for children and adults. Possibly the only old school bookshop left in Newmarket now. Quite a gem.
I, like some of the more recent reviewers, encountered the rudist customer service I have ever received from the man behind the counter of this nice looking shop. I would never return based on the aggressive and sneering manner I and my family were treated with.
