4 months for a book to arrive. If you don't have it in stocks...say so.
I went into UBIQ to purchase 2 textbooks over the counter. Prior to arrival, I had checked that the textbooks were currently listed as “in stock” and when I clicked “Check-in store” it further lists that UBIQ Auckland University had “in-store availability”. Upon arriving at the counter, I was advised that as our son attends a certain school and orders had to be placed online irrespective if the books were in stock or not. I even asked the shop assistant to forget that we were from a certain school and could I buy the book please? She declined to help me despite it being in stock, as evidently if would disrupt their critically important tracking system back to school. I then asked to see the Manager and I was advised they were unavailable as they were in a meeting. In desperation, I asked the shop assistant if I could make the booking online while I was in the shop but I was told that it would be 24 hours before the online order would be approved. The shop assistant did not understand why I asked what the company values were and surely these included "customer service". That's when she said she's "just a shop assistant" and I started to see red. Anyone who works for an organisation is an ambassador for that business, regardless of their role. I turned on my heels and shook my head. I immediately called Paper Plus and the shop assistant placed one of the books aside for me. Well done Paper Plus Parnell. UBIQ – you receive zero stars for service. You placed so many barriers in my way. Who turns away business and why did UBIQ make this so hard for me to buy a book? Two questions – who teachers your team members customer service and what do you do to make the customer experience effortless? UBIQ - get yourself a tracking code for situations like this. Mediocrity is not acceptable.
The store is pretty small but has the requisite selection of classics, reference, text books, new releases and tons of works by local authors and about local subject matter. I do like the stationery section, although I find that Typo is more value for money. The book subscription service is pretty cool too, and they tailor the books they send you according to your tastes. Personally, I didn't find it very useful because I just wasn't reading that much anymore.
Do not order from them online. Fine in person, online experience has been horrible. Textbook took over a month to come after I ordered because it said it was in stock on the website only to be told by them when I enquired that they hadn’t updated the website and it wasn’t in stock. Not only that, I finally get the brand new textbook and it’s damaged. Like said, they’re a fine store in person. But my online experience has been horrible.
This place is great for any last-minute stationery requirements, quirky gifts, textbooks/coursebooks, and just generally interesting reading material. Be warned: the line for coursebook collection is nightmarish around the start/middle of the year before semesters- they offer an online ordering service to avoid the queue. Staff are friendly and helpful. The store is also wheelchair accessible.
I am student from ACG Parnell College which uses UBIQ as their bookstore for textbooks and diary planners. I have ordered 3 books from them and despite when I have ordered them it says online that it is in-stock but when I call them they tell me that the book was not in-stock and they had to make a order to get it. The book is not even in-stock yet online it says in-stock. This is unacceptable and they did not even tell me their situation - no communication apart from an order confirmation. This book is AS & A2 Level Psychology, I have made the order over 2 weeks ago. They do not do refunds which is atrocious for bad service. I have improved my rating because a book that I have been waiting for has just arrived, sometimes it is not the bookstores problem but the couriers problem.
Might be the best secondhand bookshop I've been to, at least in terms of ambience: stock is pretty good too. Its certainly nice to sit in the garden out the back of this lovely villa, sipping the complimentary coffee, whilst reviewing one's finds.
Auckland level 3 for a week. I get it. But change your store hours to 10am - 4pm if you are changing your store hours. If you cant on google, at least put it on your website. Made my way from albany just to hear that they only operate 10am-4pm during lockdown 3. Think about it whos going to uni nowadays to see their signage on their window that they changed their operating times. Blonde lady here seems like a manager and has a wrong attitude. Only heard 'sorry' after repeating the fact that i drove all the way from albany to buy textbooks and store hours on google still says till 5.30pm. Same so what attitude was what I got last year when I bought a vinyl folder and after 2 minutes I went back to get another type and requested a refund. No refund policy is fine its just a few dollars. However, showing an 'absolutely no' 'seriously annoyed' 'what do you want me to do' attitude and facial expressions really infuriates me.
I usually come for the manga as they are one of the cheapest stores for them here in Auckland. The customer service is not so great. Almost 2/3 of the time that I go there, they seem to be uninterested and unwelcoming.
Twice I have bought from UBIQ online and the website has said my item is in stock, but I have then had to wait weeks for my item to arrive because they dont actually have it in stock. I have emailed to ask where it is and the staff just claim the website has always said it was out of stock when I clearly remembered I bought it a rush as there was '1 left in stock' . Would have bought elsewhere if I knew it would take this long as I need the books I bought
