AKARI Japanese Restaurant, established in 1987, is one of Melbourne's oldest Japanese restaurants. It is owned and managed by chef Mitsuru Hoshino.
Akari upholds its value of serving fresh food cooked simply, offering up rustic traditional Japanese food and stylistic dishes, cooked and made to order.

Food is very fresh and tasty and reasonably priced... a great little restaurant. Very much a favourite of mine! Highly recommended.

Food was really very good, price was very reasonable. Staff were very friendly, but not very attentive and got a couple of our orders wrong. all in all the meal was very good, thoroughly recommend the pancakes.

There are a great many Japanese restaurants in Melbourne, but Akari is one of our all time favourites.  Great food with beautiful presentation, good service and charming ambiance at a reasonable price.  Highly recommended.

If you like waiting and over priced food, this is your spot. Food was average, service terrible and I paid $36 for a bowl of rice, an eggplant that was smothered in miso paste and some raw beef that took an hour and 15 minutes. I want to warn anyone coming here to think twice.

Can't rate this place highly enough, really really great food and fresh ingredients. One of the few places where the take-away is as amazing as the sit-in food. Go there. Eat!

Sushi and sashimi plater was good.

really clean and crisp food. a great idea is to order food downstairs and get them to deliver it to the jazz bar upstairs.
