Finlay Jacks has that 'big home' feel. One huge kitchen, with a warm lounge area for movie nights or evenings just cruising. The staff are great, and Fin made sure we had a good stay too he's a top man! We made some great pals there and it was sad to leave.
Booked here at the last minute before Taupo half marathon because I'd stuffed up a booking at another place - and Finlay Jack's turned out to be perfect! Lovely staff, great atmosphere. Rooms and kitchen are clean and super organised. Fantastic to be able to access the shared bathrooms from your own room. 100% better than Haka Backpackers!nWould definitely stay again :
This just feels homey. convenient location. Massive kitchen with all the basic utensils. Clean facilities. They also rent out bikes and help plan your trips. Amazing staff too
Fantastic! The staff are so friendly, and there is a resident pup! Biggie nThe rooms are amazing, the pods are a great idea and give you a bit more privacy in a dorm setting.nThe kitchen and shared space facilities are great, there's a 'free food' section, and lots of information about jobs/activities on notice boards as well as free games in the living room area.nFrom my experience, the customers tend to be more 'long-stay' as opposed to short-stay vacationers and a bit of an older demographicnThe hostel is very quiet at night, with a 10.30 pm no-noise rule
2024: Probably the best accommodation in Taupo. Great price, location and facilities.nEverything's walkable, and there's a very helpful tips wall.
