I stayed at Finlay Jacks for two nights and absolutely loved it. The location is fantastic, with supermarkets and other essentials just a short walk away, making it really convenient during my stay.nnThe pod beds were amazing—super comfortable, private, and easily some of the best hostel beds I’ve experienced.nnThe hostel had a great atmosphere, was clean and well-maintained, and I felt comfortable from the moment I arrived. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it! :
Wow, honestly. This is probrally one of the best backpackers I ever stayed at. It has options to pick a private room for a fair amount and the rooms are massive, with a TV and a private bathroom. The room was also very clean with all needed ammenities like shampoo and soap, along with towels, mugs, cutlery and beverages packetsnnThere was an outdoor area that is lit up with fairy lights, it has nice decor and graffiti style art everywhere! I really enjoyed the theming music played in this area but stopped at around 20:00 to keep the outside quite for sleeping people. There were tons of fun events happening in the evening and morning like, hot chocolate night, movie night, pancake morning and a few others.nnThe place is also very well maintained and has three hammocks outside the kitchen. Everyone was very welcoming and kind along with the staff which absolutely blew my mind how helpful they were.nnThe only downside is that the outside area was a smoking zone, therefore sometimes it seeped into our room when we were airing it. Maybe it would be better if there was a designated smoking are or something.nnOverall this was an amazing experience and I will definitely come again!
We really enjoyed our stay here. Shared a bathroom with 2 other rooms so max 6 people. It was the nicest bathroom we’ve had across all the hostels we’ve stayed in. Well-equipped main kitchen downstairs that we liked cooking in. We also appreciated that we were able to store food in the fridge attached to the area we were staying in and make tea and coffee in the morning. Enjoyed sitting on the balcony too with a beautiful view. Comfy stay overall and great value for money.
Nice spot to explore Taupo. Centrally located, nice big pods and a roomy private bathroom if your staying in a dorm room. Front desk was helpful and professional. Large inner courtyard with hammocks, couches, bean bag seats and chairs to relax and socialize in. The only drawbacks are it's not the cleanest hostel clean but not sparkling!the mattresses were a bit worn and the bed sheets were of average quality. But for the price it's a solid choice for a stay in Taupo. Recommended.
In general, the hostel needs better cleanliness. It seems to be more suitable for people in their 20s. I had a bad night — the girl above me was having sex, and in the early morning there were two hours of shouting, vomiting, and a drunk guy passing gas.nnIt’s unfortunate because you could potentially have a good night there. Personally, I would look for another option. My recommendation for the hostel would be to have 24-hour reception, or at least a phone number available to report issues immediately, and to improve the overall cleanliness.nnI stayed on March 28th and March 1st, 2026.nnKind regards.
