One of the best places we've stayed so far, a very clean room with a good sized bathroom and shower. The electric kettle was a nice addition as well as the assortment of drinks too. The bed was comfortable and the windows a good size too.
A disappointing experiencenDuring our three-week trip to New Zealand, this was the only accommodation where we had issues. We stayed in Taupo during a weekend with skyrocketing prices due to an Ironman event. For this reason, we opted for a budget accommodation in a shared room. There were three of us, and we booked 3 beds in a 4-bed room with a private bathroom for two nights.nnUpon arrival, the staff member informed us that our room had been given to other guests, and they had no equivalent alternative. After much insistence, they offered us a 6-bed shared room with a shared bathroom for the entire hostel. We reluctantly accepted this option as we were exhausted after a 6-hour drive, and we had to wake up at 4:30 a.m. the following day for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing hike.nnThe experience in the room was terrible: the smell was nauseating, the heat was unbearable, and the noise from the party area where the hostel was located was constant. If we opened the windows, the noise made it impossible to sleep; if we closed them, the heat made us sweat all night. Additionally, we ended up sharing the room with more people than we were told, and one guest kept coming in and out throughout the night, preventing any rest.nnThe shared bathrooms were filthy, making them almost unusable. We finally decided to leave the hostel at 3:30 a.m. without having slept, even though we had a 28-km mountain hike ahead. For the second night, we booked different accommodation in another area, even though this meant driving longer to get proper rest and a shower.nnAfter this experience, we returned to the hostel to request a refund. We spent some time discussing with the owner and expressing our dissatisfaction before he agreed to offer a partial refund. While we eventually got half of our money back, we lost the other half and had to endure a sleepless night.nnIn summary, I would not recommend this accommodation unless you're prepared to deal with poor management, unsanitary conditions, and a very unpleasant experience.
The worst hostel experience ever. We booked a 4-bed room with a private bathroom, but they gave us a 6-bed room, fully occupied, with dirty shared bathrooms. The room was unbearably hot, smelled awful, and the noise from the bars and other guests made it impossible to sleep. We had to leave at 2 AM on the first night and find another place for the second night.nnI’ve stayed in hostels all over Asia and other places, sharing rooms without any issues, but this was a nightmare. Avoid this hostel at all costs. There’s a Top 10 Holiday Park 30 km away that is much cheaper and far better, or try Haka Lodge, which is 1,000 times better. Do not stay here under any circumstances.
If you’re stopping for an overnight rest, DO NOT stay here. The room was adequate but definitely on the shabby side of ‘shabby chic’. The main problem was the dubstep club music which was playing across the road until 2am and was impossible to sleep through, even with ear plugs and headphones. We wished we had spent the extra $50 to stay elsewhere. Only benefit was the car park next to the accommodation was free.
If you want to party, this is the place to be! Moreover you do not need to go to the club as the music of the neighbouring bar is so loud, it feels like you are there already. Even with earplugs in you can still here the music. The partyvibes is getting better, as privacy is not present: wifi is terrible can't make a simple videocall and the lock on the toilet/ shower in your room is not working. However if you wanna dance in your bed, this might be a problem: the bed is making the same noise as the music on the other side when you move a small bit.nLocation is only good if you want to get completeley drunk in the bar on the other side of the street and you don't care about noise, but if you want to have a comfort nice rest do not come here! There are two other hostels in we have been in one of them before staying here which are the same price and soooo much better.nTo end on a positive note: the shower and toilets were clean when we were there.
