We hired out the whole place for an 80th birthday weekend. 100% the best decision ever. From booking right through to our stay the service was awesome! My family and I were so happy it had everything we needed. Rooms and shared facilities where clean. The were very accomdating to all my requests as we did everything there. Kodi from the reservations team was awesome along with the others who helped. Lee and her team were friendly and easy going. Thank you guys so much! Location was awesome too easy to get around. Honestly for the price how could anyone complain! Thank you for helping my family and I create some amazing memories together.
Carrie was hospitable and helpful, she made my stay better and tried her best. I appreciate it!nnFor the price, the rooms are great and there’s free parking and it’s pretty secure. I see CCTV showing certain angles of the parked cars in the reception area.
Only one toaster and one kettle in kitchen.nAnyone can access the public spaces off the street which made me nervous at night, but it was seemingly safe.nRooms were nice with the built in bunk beds. Walkable to basically anywhere in the city!
I really loved Haka House. Everything was really clean and the room was quite spacious. The kitchen had everything you need. If it is raining there are not many places to eat but it was totaly fine during my stay. However you have to pay to store your luggage after check-out. It was really close to the supermarket and also too the lakefront. Would definitly come again.
I honestly wish I’d read more honest reviews before booking Haka House Taupō, because my stay here was a huge disappointment.nnFrom the moment I arrived, things felt off. The room was cramped and not properly cleaned—there were bits of rubbish left behind and the whole space just felt tired and poorly maintained. The bathrooms weren’t much better, often messy and clearly not checked as often as they should be.nnThe atmosphere made it worse. Instead of the friendly, social vibe you’d expect from a hostel, it felt cliquey and uncomfortable. Some guests were openly rude and gave off a weird, competitive energy, like they didn’t want anyone else around. It made it hard to relax or feel welcome at all.nnWhat really stood out in a bad way was the staff. When I raised a couple of issues, I got very little help—more like disinterest than actual customer service. It felt like they just didn’t want to deal with anything beyond the basics, which is frustrating when you’re paying to stay there.nnNoise was another constant problem. People coming and going all night, doors slamming, no enforcement of quiet hours—it was impossible to get a proper night’s sleep.nnOverall, this place felt poorly managed and nowhere near worth the price. Between the lack of cleanliness, uncomfortable atmosphere, and unhelpful staff, I wouldn’t stay here again or recommend it to anyone visiting Taupō.nnTo top it all off, my stay ended on a really sour note when I was asked to leave in a way that felt completely unfair and poorly handled. There was little to no clear explanation, and the situation was dealt with abruptly rather than professionally. Instead of trying to resolve anything or even have a proper conversation, it felt like the decision was made without any consideration. It left me feeling frustrated and unwelcome, and honestly summed up the lack of care and management throughout the entire experience.
