On the surface, it's a classic YHA hostel, so you know what to expect. Lots of rooms, good communal space for networking and relaxing, and a degree of service and cleanliness. The location is great, right opposite a large supermarket open until 11pm. However, it has definitely seen better days and many things fell below expectations, e.g. lift not working, laundry machines awaiting repair, very thin walls. We had a private en suite, but there was no hot water. When we reported it the next morning, they already knew about the issue and offered a refund. Great for the refund but why didn't they tell us before we arrived or when we checked in.? The kitchen areas are well-stocked with cooking equipment. Unfortunately the younger 'staff' are immanture, unprofessional and ruin it a bit, talking loudly and negatively about guests and others, and 'closing' the kitchen early for cleaning at 7.30pm, right in the middle of dinner time, instead of the advertised 9pm. Something for the management to address.
The bathrooms are absolutely foul mouldy, dirt, grime, smells. The double room isn't clean and seems like only the bedding was changed and the garbage bin was emptied...Desk and bedsides were sticky, the carpet didn't look vacuumed etc. The communal areas are tired and dirty too.Rooms: 1/5
For 72 dollars a night, we got a 6 bed dorm room, cold showers, a kitchen filled with dirty dishes, and woken up by a fire alarm at 2 in the morning. For less money you can stay at the Marion or the Dwellington, both of which are better options.

Came here on a school trip. Was great, staff friendly, kitchen amazing all and all a great stay... But. The showers in our room and my other classmates rooms were all horrible. I understand the water pressure, but you couldn't change the temperature and it was stuck at scolding. Please fix showers.Rooms: 4/5
Went for a school trip to wellington and stayed here. The beds were comfy, and the facilities were great! My only complaint would be that the shower I had had a small place where water would leak. But apart from that 10/10. I would recommend this place to anyone!
Awesome place to stay, that is close by to everything you need, great coffee, amazing night life, supermarket and a 5minutes walk to Tepapa and the wharf. The staff are very inviting and lovely, allowed us to leave our bags in a storage room after check out for a great day out in Welly. Would recommend.
Great location with an excellent staff member Rick on reception he could not have been more helpful to us, he was very friendly and professional easy to approach and answered any questions we had. He is a credit to the organization and YHA is lucky to have someone like that front and center because that's what makes a place great. The YHA Wellington itself has excellent facilities with very clean rooms which means a great house keeping crew that keeps on top of things. In all 5+ stars for our two stays there now.
YHA Wellington was really good value for money! The room was nice and tidy, and the YHA seems to have good amenities e.g. kitchen and movie room, tho we didn't use them. The location is absolutely great, so close to everything you might want or need. But I think the staff deserves the biggest credit, so lovely and super helpful!Rooms: 5/5
Been to here last month. The facilities are amazing and that's the best yha hostel in terms of facilities. Room and kitchen are very clean. However, I found that the staff is a bit bias...When I check out, the staff told me that there is no luggage room for storage and I have to paid for a secure locker. that's normally available in most hostel. So I have paid for the locker and they didn't told me that the locker provide neither change nor refund. As a result, I lose a few bucks on that. When I take my luggage out, I found that the staff help an European to put her luggage into luggage room. I feel like the staff is a bit bias on that.
