I had alot of fun trying on the vintage style hats and going on the penny farthing carousel. Great short video on the rise, fall and resurrection of Oamaru. Well curated area. Very enjoyable.

Whitestone City is an interesting interactive museum opened in about 2019 within an old grain store built in 1882. It features cute displays from Victorian times including a school, a penny-farthing merry go round, shop displays and so much more. My little boy loved the little wooden toys. We paid at the end of the visit via an eftpos machine and the hosts were friendly and welcoming. It is a great addition to the beautiful Victorian street scape.
The BEST hands on , interactive museum we've been to in NZ. Superb. Our grandsons couldn't believe they were encouraged to play with items. A very cool place. Allow an hour ...and be generous with your chosen 'per head' fee on exit . The carousel was stunning & the historic reel, fabulous.. We'll be back
Find the odd in this General Store; Amazing place to experience the life of the old days. Nicest staff ladies who are really helpful and welcoming. This is a must do in Oamaru.
