Gorgeous gardens that just opened back up about a month ago as it recovered from the cyclone. There is a pretty but small waterfall at the lake area. It’s an easy walk to the lake area.any of the higher paths are still not open but it is still worth a visit. They have a lovely cafe, nice toilets, and a wonderful staff. The gardens are mostly run by volunteers and they do a great job. As others have said, there is no entrance fee but they ask for and deserve donations if you go into the gardens.nnThere is parking at the top by the entrance but it fills up quickly as this is also the parking for the cafe which seats quite a few. There are other nice paved parking areas lower down the hill.
I had read the reviews, but I was still blown away. We thought we'd stop in for 20 minutes but spent well over an hour here meandering. We made a donation on our way in and a second on our way out, we were so impressed. What the volunteers have done and continue to do is incredibly special.
Enjoyed my time in Quarry Gardens and will probably return for another visit. All staff were friendly and happy to chat.nFlowing water is usually a pleasant form of relaxationnThe gardens are a very valuable venue to have for the city
Beautiful gardens that are coming back after last year’s cyclone.nPersonally love the native NZ plants in the garden but many subtropical plants here too.nQuail cafe is a little special, such a great spot, great food and lovely service.
Beautifully landscaped. Too bad there was closure due to the weather to perhaps the best part of the quarry. But hey can't complain if it's by donation. : be generous, it's a beautiful place for a picnic and a stop over to stretch your legs. Don't forget rain or shine they have umbrellas you could use. Unfortunately, I only saw it on our way back, but it would've been nice to have it offered : as I was sunburnt And they sell plants too, so go prepared.
