Guided tours to the Island are run by Diveworks Charters who have over 20 years experience with the Island and its restoration . Home to Kiwi, Saddleback, Tui, Kakariki and the dinosaur lizard the Tuatara.



"A 4+ hour guided scenic walk - tour includes close encounters with NZ bird life, geckos, skinks and tuatara. Kiwi also inhabit the Island. We have over 25 years close involvement with the Island's restoration. You will hear of the history of the Island. Tour can include swim, and a circumnavigation of the Island spotting friendly Kekeno seals and other marine life. There is a quarantine check prior to departure."

Whale island adventure was AMAZING, kids had so much fun and learnt heaps!!! They got to hold a gecko and see lots of beautiful native birds like the saddle back! What made the trip MAGICAL and very special was the beautiful FAMILY that were our tour guide and also owns the tour boat!! There knowledge of history and there own experience like taking thousands of native trees out on there boat and help planting on the island, was special to hear! They were so awesome with the kids letting them ride up the bow when driving out and back from whale! They only take 12 people or less so you get way better experience!!! I will be back to swim with the dolphins next summer! Thanks so much Steph and the team!
This is an absolute must do if you are in the Bay of Plenty. Only $160 for adults, this is really good value for money. You swim very close to some very friendly seals, with a snorkel on. Then Phil takes you in search of dolphins which you hold onto a rope while they swim beneath you. I would give this 6 stars if I could. Probably the best activity I've done in NZ and I've done a skydive, snowboarding etc. Steph is absolutely lovely, I was just a bit gutted she stays on land! On returning you are supplied with hot showers, a towel and even shampoo! Great family company. My only improvement would be you aren't allowed to wear jandals on the boat and I cut my toe a bit on one of the bolts at the front of the boat.
Great fishing trip yesterday. Staff are typical good kiwis who enjoy good banter. We had a great afternoon fishing and everyone went home with several days fish to eat. A good mix of terakihi, snapper, kingfish and maomao caught by all on biard Highly recommend. We did the half day fishing trip.
Weather its Fishing, Diving or swimming with the Seals and Dolphins around Whale IslandMoutohora or White Phil can tailor a trip to suit. I have done multiple trips fishing, and a few swimming with the seals/dolphin watching and have never left disappointed! I Can't recommend Diveworks and Phil and Stephs operation enough! With all their trips its bring your lunch and they supply virtually EVERTHING else. This comes with over 25 years of experience of this area, and charter work here.
Swimming with seals absolutely amazing and worth every penny
We did the seal and dolphin encounter today and had an amazing time. I cannot recommend this more. We saw and close to dolphins and then swam very closely with super friendly seals right at whale island. It was a fantastic time and experience
I dropped my iphone inside a waterfalls at Whakatane. As soon as i contacted them, they arrived in 10 minutes and retrieved my phone from about 5-6m under the ground. They didn't even want to charge me, and said its on Whakatane. A very helpful family. Would definitely want to meet them again in the future to checkout the Dolphin and Seal Encounters. Love from Auckland
We did the dolphin & seal snorkelling tour, and it was amazing! With no background at all regarding snorkelling, Phil and his family did a great job familiarizing us with the world below the sea. Especially the seals were very friendly and trusting I could even touch one while it circled me. The dolphins were also fascinating, even if they didn't come that close. This is a great and very recommended adventure!
This company is sooooooo great to deal with absolutely no problem to big to handle great fishing, great people, Thanks so much Diveworks and a big thanks to phill.
