If you like the 1970s, you will love the Wayfarer!nnDecorated in brown and gold, untouched for 5 decades, it gives you an authentic retro experience.nnRemember the days before shower doors? This place has shower curtains, just like the good old days! It billows in and sticks to you while you shiver under the trickle of water from the shower.nnExpect your towel to be damp, too - this is a high humidity location, and there is no climate control. No heat pump or even a dehumidifier means that if you are there in the winter, being cold and clammy is part of the deal.nnInternet is provided, and it works approximately 1% of the time, depending on where you stand.nnGood luck.
Room was booked for my son and their young family who travelled up 7 hours for family reasons. The young lady on reception was very friendly and helpful, the one redeeming factor. The room was dreadful, damp and moldy, floor was sticky, they left their shoes on. Bathroom they didn't want to use, no shower curtain this turned up the next day, there was someone's leftover KFC in one drawer, they were so shocked they took a photo, they had to wash all the utensils and plates before using. The sheets felt damp and one of the beds they could feel the bedsprings. Overall not a good experience and a sad welcome to Kaitaia.
Close to the town centre, nice vintage rooms with Sky TV, easy parking and friendly staff
Common areas not clean, staff rude, rooms unsuitablennWe stayed for 8 weeks because we worked in Kaitaia on a Farm. First off, the common areas were not clean, there are ants and flies in the kitchen, a lot of the equipment in the kitchen didn’t work or only partially and in the toilets was regularly puke and bodyhair which sometimes wasn’t removed for days. The manager yelled at us at least once a week - at times just because our work clothes we used daily weren’t folded but layed on the floor. We were threatened to be kicked out about ten times. Our mates were once kicked out for a night leaving them basically homeless having to work the next day without previous notice. Additionally we got blamed for other peoples messes. Seeing we were the main customers, it was rather surprising to be treated so poorly by the manager. The rest of the staff was very friendly and understanding.nnOn a different note, the beds are instable and very noisy. There is basically no possibility to get fresh air into the rooms and the rooms aren’t large enough for longer stays and seasonal workers to life there.
The bed sheets are all dirty and some even seem like it was not changed at all. There was a queen size bed with a blood stain on both the blanket through to the bedsheet. It was very obvious that was not changed and the comforter just goes over it. The comfortable was really dirty under when we lift it up… the other beds were the same. One of the pillow cover didn’t seem changed at all as it was all crumbled up compared to the one next to it which looks brand new.
