Absolutely beautiful views. I've had a few picnics here. The tower itself is pretty cool as when you get to the top you can see the entire town and the ocean and river. I go over there whenever I need some time alone. Love love love :
Definitely recommend a stop to the War Memorial Tower. You can climb up the tower to the top for the best view of the city. Such a gorgeous view! The walk is a lot of stairs for sure. But definitely worth the view. It was a little busy when we went, but we didn’t have to wait. Worth checking out if your in the area :
We took the lift up and walked back down. It was a great view at the top of the lift and at the top of the tower. I like how it had free parking at the bottom, and the tower was free to walk up. The lift was only $2 per adult and .50c per child.
This is definitely the best view in Whanganui. On a good day you can see as far as Ruapehu and Taranaki. You have to climb some stairs but 100% worth it. If you come on a Saturday you can enjoy a delicious hot or iced drink at the red coffee van. You can drive up here, or take the steps or elevator from town up.
There's a small car park at the tower.nAwesome views at the top of all the steps of the water tower, river, and township.
