Even though I live but a stone's throw away from this incredible transportation attraction, I haven't visited it for some time.nHere's some picture updates of this must see one-of-a-kind in NZ...from the top anyway.
Very cool break from driving. Great history and love how they kept everything pretty close to time period. Darren was our operator that day and gave a wonderful history of the elevator as well as the hill and surrounding area. Really excited when he talked about the Mercury Arch rectifier. There are only a few in the world and this one may be the only on in use. There are pics of it at the top. The door to the office at the top was open and what an amazing view his office has. He also gave us a map of the city and recommended a few walks in town and a nice artsy area.
Excellent, enjoyed the walk in the tunnel, loved the changing colours.nThe Operator was very friendly and reassuring.nDidn't mind the rattle.
The walk through the tunnel towards the elevator is well lit with changing colours. The elevator itself is still an experience not to be missed. Nice to know it is run by paid staff now.nLovely views of Wanganui city and the river from the rooftop.
Cool view overlooking the town. Fun for kids to walk the tunnel with the lights
