it's actually the viewing platform at the top end of this elevator that's offering stunning panoramic view of the city, river, and landscape. instead of using this elevator, one can drive directly up to nearby the platform, close to the memorial tower.nthere can be magnificent sunset views on the right day.

A great 'secret' spot in Whanganui. Park at the base of the hill and follow the long tunnel to the old elevator. A quick talk from the operator and, for a modest fee, you're slowly lifted to the summit with all the clanks and bumps. Interesting historic memorabilia inside the elevator. Loved it!

Even though the elevator itself is closed for maintenance, the guy there was very knowledgeable,  taking the time to show us everything. He took us down the bottom as well to the tunnel explaining the history. It was well worth the time. The views are brilliant

The walk through the tunnel towards the elevator is well lit with changing colours. The elevator itself is still an experience not to be missed. Nice to know it is run by paid staff now.nLovely views of Wanganui city and the river from the rooftop.

Even though I live but a stone's throw away from this incredible transportation attraction, I haven't visited it for some time.nHere's some picture updates of this must see one-of-a-kind in NZ...from the top anyway.
