Nice experience with the short tunnel with colourful lights. Durie hill lift is very old school but very well maintained. Nice view from the top. Worth visiting if you haven’t been there. Prefer to park the car at the car parking close to the river bridge and go for a short walk and enjoy the tunnel walk and hill view.
A great place to climb to the top and view the Whangnui river of to the Sea, and surrounding area. Wonderful for photos. The platform at the top is open, but fenced. Probably a dozen parking spots at the foot of the tower
I absolutely enjoy this place. Ride this historic elevator lasting a century is must!!!nDon’t forget to ask for paper tickets if you’re collector ;
Enjoy an interesting walk down the Tunnel to the base of the Durie Hill Elevator. The elevator itself provides a historic journey up to the top of the hill. In all my visits to Whanganui I never realized this existed. Now that I know, I won't make the mistake of missing it out again. I recommend this to all who visit Whanganui.
Nice little experience. At the top you can climb up the tower and get some great views of Whanganui. Kids enjoyed venturing through the tunnel and pressing the bell.
