Nice little experience. At the top you can climb up the tower and get some great views of Whanganui. Kids enjoyed venturing through the tunnel and pressing the bell.
Wonderful experience. It is 2 dollars each way for adults, you can pay by cash or EFTPOS. 4 people at a time, or 5 for slims nThere are many parking on top of the hill or plenty on-road parking next to the War Memorial Tower. Or you can park at the bottom of the hill, climb the very steep stairs to the top and take the elevator down. The parking at the bottom has 60mins and 120mins time limits. The tunnel at the bottom is really good, the Neon lights changing colours.nHighly recommend it.
Loved this place! Only 2 such lights in the whole wide world. One in Portugal and another one is this one!nnWalk through the tunnel, it is painted white, well lit and best of all echoes loudly. Me and my child enjoyed making different sounds while walking through the tunnel.nnThe lift is at the end of the tunnel. Ring the bell, a friendly lift man will bring the lift to bottom of the hill.nnDuring Jan 2023, they were running half price on the fares. It was just a dollar for an adult and 50c for kids. How amazing!nnI suppose many school kids still use this lift especially to carry their bicycles.nnBeautiful views at the top of the hill. Anzac tower which 300 m tall. We were almost 1000m above sea level at the top of the tower. Stunning views and beautiful experience!nnKudos the team who are running this. This is a must visit!
What a wonderful piece of history and a great feat of engineering. Emma was the guide for the elevator and she was knowledgable and friendly. Great views from the top. If you have the energy to ascend 175 steep steps then you will get to the top of the tower and I imagine the views will be spectacular. They were pretty good from the smaller platform above the elevator.nDurie Hill is a lovely suburb.nRecommended
Worth the visit and worth the consideration.nBit windy when I was here but it is an easy drive with some good sights to be seen overlooking the city.n from me
