Easily accessible from the road, it was very quiet when we visited at around 08:30 am. A pretty waterfall worth the detour. There are a couple of parking spaces and a picnic bench. In the past this source was important in terms of both the Maori and later Pakeha settlement of the area.
One of the historic locations around Whakatane. This waterfall was important both to the local Maori and early settlers as a water source and energy source to power a local flax and flour mill. There is a handful of parking spaces, including a disabled spot, and a grassy area with a picnic bench which, with it's location off the road, make it a quiet spot to have lunch. A short path from the picnic area will take you to the base of the waterfall, the flow of which will depend largely on how much rain there has been recently - in the case of my photos quite a bit.
Just beside the road. Wairere falls is beautiful waterfall. There is also another Wairere falls in Matamata. I thought this Wairere falls was not exciting but it has her features. It is less than 1 minute walk from the road. When we went there was no one present. The waterfall falls is worth visiting. The town is just near too.
Very nice spot, so close to town.
Pretty cool having a waterfall right in town. I liked it
