Great family park....nice area with large trees to set up under the shade. Has tables. Basketball hoop. Even a coffee cart is there. Good parking. Dogs also allowed.
Waipuna Park is a cracker of a place. The fields for football are amazing - flat, firm, true and great to play on. The top fields for the kids are great. The bottom fields are undergoing reno for additional drainage, so they'll be mint come winter. There's a great bush walk as well that will take you down to a sweet little waterfall. During the week there is a coffee cart doing amazing coffee and great food.
We LOVE Waipuna Park!! Especially since they improved the playground space and added the basketball court and the new pathway. It's a beautiful place for dogs and kids. We are there regularly. We also love Pippy's Pantry. If you haven't tried out their selection yet, definitely stop by! Here's a picture of my youngest in nature's own playground.
What an amazing hidden gem tucked into the middle of the city. Extensive variety of walkways, some areas are quite steep so you need to be reasonably fit to tackle them. Otherwise take your time to enjoy the flora, fauna and some very mature trees are beautiful. The waterfall is worth the time to look for it so please do. Have fun and take a packed lunch :
