A bit older than some other university of Auckland buildings but still pretty good. The lower floors particularly have made an effort to be more modern. Lots of study spaces but closes early compared to Kate Edgar so don't get locked in. Pretty quiet to study in. Wifi can be bad sometimes but other times okay.
There are massive changes occurring at the University of Auckland library. There's an intense amount of new building for the sciences and engineering but nothing for the arts and humanities. Some essential queries: Why is the Thomas building not being restored? Why has there been no new development of the main library in Alfred Street? What plans are in train to replace the Maidment Arts Centre? Why has the rating of this University decreased?
A great place for studying, but don't be surprised if the atmosphere gets ruined by a few students who think it's okay to talk when everyone else is quiet. Sometimes you would also hear a weird white noise or clacking sound that's very hard to describe. They have heating on sometimes and many floors available for you to find a table. Although there is a large selection of books, most people come here to study instead of browsing.
Way better than Auckland City Library. As a library they provide PREMIUM level books for studying. Personal computers are clean and have lots of memory. Internet is speedy and WiFi is very reliable. No homeless people around, hence no bellowing, no harassment, no loitering. Staff are extremely polite whereas Auckland City Library staff haft atrocious manners. Ladies and gentlemen, I invite thee to this library. How about quitting Auckland City Library?
A very peaceful place for quiet, study time. Offers a huge selection of books as well
One of the finest collection of academic resources I have encountered throughout my academic life in the UK, India, and now in New Zealand. This library is furthermore staffed with an expert team of librarians, support staff, and administrators that make every experience of remote and campus learning a joy. Lifetimes can be spent reading and viewing the wealth of resources on offer here and there would be enough for lifetimes more. This is, veritably, Auckland's most understated attraction.
Overall a pleasant experience. The fleshy substance in the halls was of little concern. The wailing atrium was just as described. The public servants of His Grace of the library kept their distance sufficiently.
Good academic library with a range of different subject areas. Most books are on the shelf but others needed to be ordered from storage. Recent books may not have a physical copy but rather be available through the computers there. Fines are pretty steep.
The good: Quiet, resourceful, clean environment, good for studying The bad: Complex building structure for someone who's new, sometimes always packed and worst of all is the slow WiFi with 1 Mb down speed and <1 Mb up speed.
This library has gained a a very negative public profile in national media. It was once a great library. Nowadays? Who would agree? Perhaps not too many. By closing 3 nationally significant research libraries there will be an inevitable reduction in regard for this facility. Thousands of stakeholders have not been heard or even been recognised as stakeholders. What an unfortunate miasma for a university desperate for a public regard. Staff and students have been ignored in such a comprehensive manner. Is this university proactively investing in a further downgrade of its international standing by reducing its research facilities?
