We spent the weekend in Masterton and stumbled across this little café. It was packed the whole time we were there, which is always a good sign. My husband got the vegan Big Daddy breakfast and I got the granola bowl. Both were delicious. They forgot the sausages for the Big Daddy so they aren’t pictured, but they brought them out quickly after I asked. It’s a cute little café and the menus made from repurposed children’s books are such a lovely wee touch. Lots of vegan/veggie options too.
A quick stop off for lunch on the drive from Napier to Wellington. Lovely staff, tasty food, and great coffee in a vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Visited a very popular cafe in Masterton today—absolutely packed and fully booked inside. Luckily, there was a lovely outdoor area with available seating, which made for a pleasant setting.nnWe ordered pancakes with lemon ice cream for the kids, and they were a real hit—beautifully presented and genuinely delicious. The English breakfast tea was solid, no complaints there.nnUnfortunately, the coffee didn’t quite meet expectations. The flat white was, well, a little too flat—lacking heat and strength. The halloumi roll had potential, but it seemed to have spent too long under the press, making it a bit too crispy and overdone for my liking.nnStaff were friendly and welcoming, but clearly overwhelmed by the high volume of customers, which led to a longer wait time for our order.nnOne thing to note—the prices felt a little on the high side for what we got. Not outrageous, but just a bit more than I’d expect given the overall experience.nnAll in all, it’s easy to see why the place is popular—great vibes and some standout items on the menu. But personally, I wouldn’t rush back. If you’re passing through and craving a good pancake, definitely worth a stop. Otherwise, maybe keep going…
We came in almost by chance, having stopped on the road outside, and we were rewarded very well for doing so! Excellent coffee, and absolutely blown away by the food. Huge portion sizes, great atmosphere and friendly staff. Will be back!
Wow what a Sammie!!! I had the ultimate pleasure of eating trocaderos chicken pesto ciabatta today. Needless to say it is by far the best sandwich I have ever had. The chicken was juic, the pesto pumping with flavour, the bread was super crunchy on the out and soft and airy on the inside. Fourteen dollars and totally worth it. I also had a smoothie which was nine dollars which i thought was a bit steep for the size of it takeaway but it was very very yummy, I literally had whole blueberries to eat at the bottom so.i think it was worth the cost in the end. We did wait a while and the bench top by the window was very sticky but overall it was a very pleasant little cafe and would deffinately go again next time we are in the wairarapa.
