Story

Welcome to The Wool Shed, the national museum of sheep and shearing.

Located just one and a half hours from Wellington, we are a hands-on heritage museum, in the rural town of Masterton.

When you drop in to see us you will enjoy:

Typical working woolsheds – Moved off the farm with full impact and authenticity
History of wool and its importance to our nation. Live, hands on samples of wool types and end product
Spinning and weaving demonstrations on Wednesday's or by arrangement
Gallery of the development of farming with dramatic impact
The story of shearing - its beginnings and how it became an international sport
A wide range of wool garments and souvenirs
Visits to Wairarapa farm with our Farm Tours and see dogs at work and wool shed in action
Shearing demonstrations can be arranged in the historic woolshed, just give us a call.
