Beautiful old building. Great service by the staff. Food was delicious. The large seafood chowder is huge. There is a smaller option. I loved the seafood board was excellent, see photo.nI won't go into the specifics of an unfortunate incident but it was handled well.
Really friendly staff, and they even give adults the option of ordering off of the kids menu you just don't get the drink, which suited my elderly parents very much, as they are not big eaters.nEverything was well prepared and came out in a timely manner.nI asked for no tomato in my burger, and not long after, the chef came out to double check it wasn't an allergy thing, as the relish is made of tomato too, and I truly appreciate they went to that effort to check.nWould happily go back in a heart beat :
Could not fault this place at all!nnWe ordered three different meals and a few different drinks.nI was a few doors down preoccupied so I sent my kids in to order and they were treated with respect, just like any other customer which was great other places have turned kids away making decent sized orders!nI arrived and our meals soon came out, they were all delicious, cooked perfectly and great size.nThe service was amazing, such a friendly lady here who is a joy to speak with.nThe atmosphere is also lovely.nNot any negative points on this place at all - highly recommend!
Food took over an hour to come out after we were told a 30 minute wait, the table next to us got their food a good 15 minutes before us even though we ordered well before them and were both only tables of 2. We got the chicken burger which was super chewy and over cooked with a huge white chunk of lettuce no leafy greens at all. The breakfast meal only came with 1 piece of sausage that felt microwaved, no hash browns but some potato type sticks that were gross. Didn’t eat most of the meal. Weren’t offered a second round of drinks not that we wanted any but not the point. We used to come here every trip to Nelson but will not return again. Disappointing.
It is the night before our daughters fly back to their cities of residence, so a perfect opportunity to go out for a bite!nWe sat down and chatted out our options, and what each of us felt like eating A common dilemma! and through previous experience and some recommendations we came up with The Stables in Richmond.nWhen we entered the venue we were greeted by a busy room, with a few people standing around enjoying their after work drinks. A good jovial atmosphere.nThere were also plenty of staff, and we were seated promptly.nOnce drinks were ordered we settled down to peruse the menu, and found a number of items which suited our moods for the night.nPork Ribs - These were very tender perhaps a little too soft and the sauce could have been a little sweeter, but overall these were enjoyed and the plate was left only containing bones. The side was a coleslaw.nSmoked Chicken and Mushroom Carbonara - This was delicious. The pasta seemed to be made in the kitchen, and was cooked to perfection. The chicken and mushroom was flavoured well and cooked nicely. Perhaps a little more sauce, but this is a personal preference.nChicken Salad - This was a child sized serving, but was ample for an early 20s lady! The salad was really good with some amazing flavour and fresh vegetables. The chicken was cooked and flavoured well.nSouthern Chicken with Potatoes fried in Duck fat - The chicken was cooked well, being nice and moist, and the southern coating was good with a bit of fire from the pepper. The potatoes were a star of the night with all having a taste and smiling at the experience.nWe also had a seafood platter - this consisted of 4 Mussels, cooked well. A cold smoked salmon fillet. Salt and Pepper Calamari. Prawns in a seafood mayonnaise. Deep fried fish and a couple of sauces. This was a great starter with everything cooked well and with fresh produce.nOverall it was a good pub meal experience. The price was good and the food was good. We will be back!
