Est. 1995 The Rockpool is Christchurch's premier entertainment and dining venue.

Story

Opened in 1995, closed in 2011, reopened 2015.

We have a restaurant serving breakfast from 7 AM through to lunch and dinner served until late. With snacks and pizzas available all hours of operation.


Thirteen pool tables, a gaming room with 18 machines and a self service TAB machine.

Full bar - world famous teapots, local and imported beers, fine wines and almost every spirit imaginable.

I come here regularly with some friends for breakfast before we all start work. The $10 breakfast special is good and I usually add a side of hash browns for $4 to top it off. For what you get, it’s a pretty good deal. Customer service is a bit hit and miss, but is not too bad.
The waitresses were pleasant. The coffee was about the only good thing on the table. Don't waste your time trying the breakfast promotions. I would pay double and get a decent meal, rather than the food they are trying to pass off as a special. Disappointed and won't be back in a hurry. I did let the cashier know before I paid that the food was disappointing,was offered a complimentary drink but gracefully declined. The manager on duty didn't seem to be interested in patrons waiting to pay nor offer any assistance. Overall disappointing experience. Do not recommend.

I rated this place a 5 but I've gotta put it out there. The customer service from the Thai Woman is absolutely unacceptable! We used to come in quite a bit and I rated her customer service at a high level. Dunno what's happened? But the vibe from her body language made us feel unwelcome to a tee. No smile, slamming forks/knives on the table like just really cold vibes, didn't even acknowledge my child and take his order. We're all for supporting local and the food is really good but I hope next time we come, sorry I don't wanna be served by her. The Asian guy with the glasses, ka pai to him because he was lovely and served our group well. UPDATE 16/01/22: We came back with a family group last night and our waiter and waitress did an excellent job serving our group. Please let them know, they did an excellent job and appreciate their service. The young man with the accent and the young woman who was on serving, sorry don't know their names but keep up the good work it'll be people like them who will keep us coming back & because of them my rating goes back up plus meals again were really delicious as usual as well my frozen strawberry daiquiri
Pre-ordered lunch for mid-day on a Monday. The food was ready shortly after we arrived. Staff were friendly enough, very helpful. I ordered the Caesar salad with Salmon less the anchovies. The egg was cook nicely just how it should be, still a lil yolky Yum Salad was fresh and tasty with delicious lil crusty bread bits. My lunch date had the Nachoes with the beef and said it was one of the tastiest he had eaten. He ordered 2x extra sour cream on top of what was supplied plus some sweet chili sauce. Great service. Delicious food.
Rockpool is a great bar to go to when you want a quick drink. The reason I drink alcohol is explained below: Well you see it's like this. A herd of buffalo can only move as fast as the slowest buffalo. And when the herd is hunted, it’s the slowest and weakest ones at the back that are killed first. This natural selection is good for the herd as a whole, because the general speed and health of the whole group keeps improving by the regular killing of the weakest members. In much the same way, the human brain can only operate as fast as the slowest brain cells. Now, as we know, excessive intake of alcohol kills brain cells. But naturally, it attacks the slowest and weakest brain cells first. In this way, regular consumption of beer eliminates the weaker brain cells, making the brain a faster and more efficient machine. And that is why you always feel smarter after a few beers and cocktails. One minor side effect of alcohol is that I started confusing the hand dryer for a soap dispenser in the toilets. I don’t know why, but some tall guy in a suit kept wanting to play pool with me.
some staff are nice but they do have cameras in the toilet. Drinks are nice tea pots would get me coming back if there was no cameras in the toilet.
Great service all around, amazing drink selection love bringing friends from out of town too show off inner city with game of pool !Food: 5/5
Good live music up stairs on Friday night for free ! Good price drink and very good and friendly service ! Recommend if you stop in Christchurch!
