The young service team at Thatcher & Small was absolutely outstanding – attentive, quick, helpful, and incredibly friendly. As a guest, we felt genuinely well taken care of. The restaurant has a great location and is stylishly decorated, offering both indoor and outdoor seating options.nnThe food was delicious, though we felt the vegetables on the flatbread could have been a bit more generous. We opted for a selection of starters to share, giving us the chance to try as many dishes as possible. For two people, we’d recommend ordering at least four starters to feel truly satisfied.nnThe squid, unfortunately, was slightly overcooked and therefore quite tough. While the flavor was good, the texture could definitely be improved.nnThe highlight of the evening was the dessert. The macadamia cookie with white chocolate was absolutely divine and is a must-try!nnThank you for such a wonderful experience – we highly recommend this restaurant!
Gluten Free Alert!!! Code red!!! Thatcher & Small has a huge selection of gluten free desserts and pastries. This spot is new and comfortable and has both indoor and outdoor seating. Order at the counter and they bring everything to you. We were only there twice and the second time we came in they remembered our names and were joking with us like regulars!nnWe had a lemon meringue, Carmel Brownie, orange almond cake, and a chocolate and raspberry ice cream thing ... You could not even tell they were gluten free, and all were made in house. To top it off the cappuccino was amazing!
Came here for dinner. Thought I’d try the beef Wellington, even though it was the priciest item on the menu. Did not regret it at all - the meat was tender, the pastry was crisp and flaky, and it was all round scrumptious! Definitely recommend the beef Wellington! Also had the grilled mussels, which were delicious and flavoursome as well.
Great place! The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered vegetarian risotto and beef with potatoes and mushroom sauce. The beer was also excellent. A big thank you to the staff for the wonderful service!
Thatcher & Small is probably my go to food place in Hokitika, always has amazing food + a wide selection of fresh cabinet food and the service is great! The tomato & basil soup is also some of the best soup I’ve ever had + I think the best garlic bread on the West Coast comes from here!
