Great spot to stay in Te Anau! We originally booked a glamping tent but when we arrived they had a cancellation for one of their king rooms so we upgraded. Room was cute and very clean! Front desk staff was helpful at check in. We didn't utilize any of the facilities or common spaces as we only stayed for a quick overnight en route to Milford. As the name indicates, it's right on the lake which was great for a stroll along the lake path. Bonus: we met two friendly cats one greeted us in the parking lot before making it to our room, and the other bid us farewell the next morning who happily accepted head scratches :
I absolutely loved my stay at Lakefront Backpackers! The location couldn’t be more perfect, right on the lake, with the most stunning sunrise views and just a short stroll to shops, cafés, and the start of some incredible walks. It really feels like the heart of Te Anau.nnThe rooms were clean, warm, and comfortable, and the facilities had everything you could need. A well-equipped kitchen, spacious lounge areas, laundry, and plenty of cozy spots to relax after a big day exploring. The showers were always hot and the Wi-Fi worked great a lifesaver when planning the next day’s adventure!.nnBut the best part has to be the staff. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely passionate about helping guests make the most of Fiordland. They had amazing tips for local hikes, tours, and hidden spots that I never would’ve discovered otherwise.nnWhether you’re heading to Milford or Doubtful Sound, tackling the Great Walks, or just soaking up the beauty of the area, this place is the ideal base. Can’t recommend it enough, I’ll definitely be back!
Staying at this hostel was truly one of the highlights of my trip. The moment you arrive, you feel welcomed and relaxed.nnThe common areas are cozy and perfect for meeting other travelers, or simply enjoying a quiet moment with a view. The kitchen is incredibly well equipped, making it easy to cook after long days of hikes. And the beds… Super comfortable, warm, and exactly what you need in Fiordland.nThank you, guys!
The hostel is in an incredibly convenient location! As soon as you step outside, you can see the vast lake view, and it’s less than a 10-minute walk to the Fresh Choice and Four Square supermarkets.nnThe room was clean and comfortable, and the staff at the reception were very willing to help me with anything I needed. The best part is that when you relax in the common area in the lobby, you can look out the window and enjoy the beautiful lake view.nnIt’s only a 5-minute drive to the Kepler Track. I highly recommend staying here for a nice and restful visit.
Amazing location! I watched the best sunsets and night skys from the lakefront while staying at te anau lakefront backpackers, it was incredible! Super comfy bed and warm and inviting rooms, and the staff are really lovely, they've created a great atmosphere. I will definitely be staying here again when I'm back in te anau, 10/10!
