This place is incredible and does authentic Japanese cuisine. Very large portion sizes so you won't leave hungry. The service is also very welcoming and friendly. Next time you're in the neighborhood, skip the refined carbs at the yuppie cafes and come here instead.
Good price and super delicious taste. The location is hidden. The only drawback is that some employees are very silent and do not respond to my questions. But it doesn't affect my love for this restaurant. Highly recommended.

Nice ambience and environment, service was excellent. Strongly recommend the wagyu sukiyaki set - real Japanese Wagyu and the sukiyaki soup was delicious. Overall great value for money.
One of fantastic Japanese restaurants in Auckland. You can taste authentic Japanese food here cooked by Japanese chefs. Loved eating lunch specials including sashimi, tempura, karaage & chicken Katsu. They were all nice & tasty Staff were friendly as well. Loved to go back there.
Don't expect this restaurant to give you a satisfactory handling if you have a safety accident due to the mistakes of their staff. About one month ago I went to here and my thumb was badly scalded by the burning sukiyaki plate they were serving because their manager put all the cutlery right next to the hot pot. When I took the salad bowl from my girlfriend, within a second my thumb was scalded with a huge blister on the side of the ceramic bowl near the hot pot. That night I had to go to the nearest hospital and waited four hours in the emergency room. Then I bought medicines for it. Because of this accident that they thought was no big deal, I spent no less than 200 dollarsexcluding transportation expense. My fingers were sore for several days during this period. Their manager never seemed to take the accident to heart and insisted that it was my problem. That night, after I had burned for a while, she brought me something like a hand cream that was never meant for burns, and told me that their kitchen staff often had this accident. She didn't give me the aloe vera gel I could use until the second time I went to her because of the unbearable pain. And their boss never showed up from beginning to end the boss was too busy according to the manager. Based on the ACC report and pharmacy receipt I provided, the boss told me that the accident had nothing to do with them after looking at the surveillance cameras in their restaurant. I think I was careful enough that night that I immediately put down and soaked my fingers in cold water the moment I touched the burning hot bowl. No one can guarantee what the consequence will be if it was a child or an elderly person. A restaurant with such a lack of safety awareness and a negative attitude towards problems is undoubtedly the worst I have ever seen in New Zealand. And I can swear that what I said is the truth.
Takio is a great Japanese restaurant in Kingsland! The atmosphere is cozy while able to cater for larger groups. My table ordered the Katsu Chicken, Salmon and Avocado Sushi, Takoyaki and Sizzling Yum Yum prawns. All were excellent. The presentation of the food and portion sizes is incredible. I would highly recommend it.Recommended dishesNigiri Sushi Selection, Takoyaki, Salmon Sashimi, Sashimi Selection
Small Japanese restaurant in Kingsland - Ordered salmon sashimi, sashimi platter, tempura, chicken katsu and Takowasa not in pic; all were so delicious, very fresh sashimi, thick and juicy katsu, crispy yet so moist tempura, the wasabi sauce in takowasa def hits the spot, not too overpowering! Though, u need to pay extra for extra sauce. Price are reasonable for the portion and the quality you get - highly recommended
As I failed booking with the other branch in Ponsonby which is my regular place, I tried here on Sunday evening. All the menu was the same but food quality and presentation were in somewhat disappointing. Staff were friendly but hard to draw their attention because all staff were standing back turned on customers.Recommended dishesTempura Prawns
One of the best Japanese restaurants in town. Fresh, finest ingredients. The plating is so adorable.
