Beautiful forest. Nice scenic drive. The largest tree and it looks amazing. Well maintained. Must visit this place as photos don't do any justice.
Absolutely beautiful and magnificent. It is truly a must-see, if possible! Not even a 5 min walk to the 'lord of the forest' the giant Kauri tree. Accessibility- Walkway is sturdy and stable enough for wheelchairs, prams, etc. Parking- Lots of parking at the entrance. There is also a place for a picnic across from the entrance. There is also another giant amongst 'the lord of the forest' see if you can spot it!
Beautiful forest with some wonderful trees and walks. Amazing to be amonst the largest trees in the world - a stat that I was not aware off prior to taking this walk. The Kauri tree forests are amazing. Its a lovely drive. We took the longer path - by going from Pahia to Snells beach via the forests instead of direct. Very much worth the drive. Be careful though as some of the smaller towns do not have pay way....
I have always wanted to see this tree and today I did, what a magnificent tree, it is huge, like a big skyscraper reaching for the sky, 2000 years old apparently and most Probably will live and grow for another 2000 years, AMAZING
Majestic and spiritual place. A 1-2 min walk from the parking onsite, this behemoth of a tree surprises you as you walk your way down the boardwalk. The heavy foliage conceals its place in the forest until you get surprisingly close. I am grateful to have had the chance to see this tree in person, standing just meters away, in the soft breeze, dappled in sunlight, bird calls and quiet. The tree seems to house it's own ecosystem in it's branches above the trunk it is so large. The boardwalk bends around away from Tane Mahuta proving a view from further back, along with a variety of other large Kauri trees amongst the forest. It seems a time may come where climactic factors or biological diseases may eradicate these most unique trees, with such little native kauri forest left, seeing it and standing so close feels like a privilege that will not be present for much longer.
A very spiritual experience. You can feel the magnificence of this tree as it towers above the rest. Only a short 3-5 minute walk from the road.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
This is a must see, my family and I loved it. The young lady who was there as a guide was very knowledgeable not only about Tane Mahuta but also the other surrounding trees and she could take an amazing photo as well.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Did a twilight tour and wow! so incredible. The trees are truly awe-inspiring. They demand respect. A lot of measures being done for Kauri dieback so really recommend going with tour guide. Quick walk to the tree not even 5 minutes all paved. The tree had an aura in the evening light!
A New Zealand must-see. Incredibly old trees in a beautiful forest. It's a very short walk from the carpark along a well maintained boardwalk. Please be sure to respect the shoe cleaning measures in place to protect these giants, and stay on the tracks!
What a wonderful adventure this was. Tane Mahuta is the largest Kauri tree in New Zealand. It's a spectacular site and my photos don't give it the appreciation it deserves. Parking is limited and site opens at 8am. Toilets are also available. There is a foot scrub and shoes wash at the entrance before heading to the huge Kauri tree. This prevents unwanted species to the area. Peaceful easy and short walk ‍ for everyone. Only 25 mins from Opononi NZ. FREE ENTRY!
