Personally for me, St Dominic’s wasn’t the right school. The teachers are quite rude and can also be racist at times. They don’t care about your well-being and only give you loads of work and homework each day. The students are really rude to you and they are very racist aswell. I hated this school so much and feared getting up in the morning each day to attend this school. I only stayed here for a year however, this school still haunts me to this day. I don’t recommend this school at all. If you are considering putting your daughter in this school, please look for more alternative options. I hope my review has helped you.
Do not recommend!!! The teachers here are known to be very problematic and racist with bad teaching skills and most students here have either been bullied or bully other students.I know multiple people that have complained to the teachers including the principal about certain problematic teachers and bullying happening here and they've done NOTHING AT ALL. The rules here are incredibly crazy and controlling the teachers don't care about YOU they care about you're appearance and how you "represent the school" trying to make you seem "formal" and less "messy" or "unappealing" and they do this by not allowing makeup, eyelashes, jewellery, acrylic nails, unnatural hair colour, facial piercings, ear piercings and more the list goes on, they also don't care if you're piercings are new and need to heal they will MAKE YOU take it out and give it to them. It just shows how the schools cares more about our appearance than our than mental health, I suggest reading the review below this which tells more information about the rules here. Summary I do not recommend this school AT ALL. If you still plan on coming here do yourself a favour and make it temporary. And Like the other review said this school deserves nothing more than 1 star review.
St Dominics isn't a good school the teacher isn't good at teaching sometimes, some teachers just expect you to know what there teaching in a day. the school is just to harsh on us students, they don't mark tests fairly and by one little mistake you don't get the mark that you were meant to get. we can't have piercings and get in big trouble saying "its in the law that you can't have that on your body" even tho its our body not theirs. St Dominics needs to be more reasonable with the students not making them feel down or have the right to speak. some of the teachers are unfair towards people that are of colour and have more than 1 ethnicity. I do not recommend coming here before you come here look at the reviews. and don't ever come.
Very confused about people giving this school a five star review. If I was able to give it a rating below one star I would, if you are considering sending your daughter to St. Dominics, I beg you to look at other options. The rules are over the top, it is an overall bad experience. If I could go back in time and choose to attend a different school I would. Teachers do not care about you, other students don't care about you, your wellbeing will be overlooked. There is no positive aspect of St. Doms. The staff are overly strict, making school even more miserable as it is. Everyday I wake up and dread going to the hell St. Dominics puts me through. A lot of times I don't even go, because I just can't deal with the torment of being there. I know I am not the only one feeling this way. Most of my personal problems and issues stem from attending this school. I seriously considered dropping out at one point. You are not allowed to be yourself at this school. You can't have your hair down, you can't have more than one piercing the one on your earlobes, you can't wear any kind of jewellery, you can't dye your hair, you have to wear black ankle socks, you can't wear anoraks inside, and you aren't even allowed to wear makeup as simple as mascara. All because you look "messy" and "improper" to the teachers and staff. There are probably more stupid rules I can't remember right now. Another thing, on 2 days in the week, they turn wifi off at lunchtime. Which is a dumb rule because students aren't allowed on their phones at all during the day, and you are taking away the time they are actually allowed to be on their phones, then you wonder why people use their phone during class time and form time. Think about it. The only reason I still attend school is because my friends are there. That is why this school deserves nothing more than a 1 star review. I rest my case.
I was an exchange student for 2-3 months. It was great, don't get me wrong. The reason I give it 3 stars is because of the social experience I saw girls go through. Lots of bullying, to teachers and students. There is a social preassure that can be easily seen. Some of my friends had to change school because of how tired they were of it. I would recommend it if you go for temporal time. Try to be as social as possible. Teachers are great, some are not.
I am a former student of this school, and attended this school from Year 7 - Year 13. If you are a parent who is considering on sending your daughter/s to this school, I would suggest to look towards a different school. To begin, I would like to share the positive aspects and take out the time to provide my gratitude to the English department of this school, Ms. Shearer and Ms. Collins are phenominal teachers who not only taught English but also general life skills. Teachers, Mr. Drysdale, Ms. Claire, Mr Jellyman, Mrs Carla and Ms. Hill also shared a wealth of knowledge and truly upskilled their students in their respective areas. Unfortunately, most teachers decided to shrug off their responsibilities and expected students to simply memorise textbook content and made no effort to teach concepts, skills and values in a practical and applicable manner. Most teachers had no knowledge of different learning styles, or made the effort to incorporate new methods of teaching. If you would like to develop your daughter/s overall skillsets, professional and personal development - St Dominic's is not a fit school. St Dominic's rarely used and upskilled students on technology, never used real world examples to link subjects in school with the real world, and certainly did not prepare anyone for university or the workforce. The religious elements of the school prevented female empowerment and improvement in female capabilities. The school culture was more obsessed with student's appearances i.e. are the girls looking prime and proper rather than making any active investments in technology or innovation. Females were taught "traditional" concepts determined their worth and value, and students were left uninspired and underconfident. I learnt more from YouTube, Khan's Academy and Sparknotes than from many of my teachers. Your daughter/s will find integrating in further education opportunities and the workforce difficult because St Dominic's does not expose students to the very real life challenges of taking care of mental health & wellbeing, financial literacy, political literacy, healthy relationship with the opposite gender, and more. The careers department barely gave any guidance and only advertised "traditional" jobs i.e. doctor, lawyer, teacher, engineer or accountant. I didn't even know my current field of work existed untill I left high school. I've given this school a 3 star rating based on positive experiences with a handful of my teachers over the 7 years, but this does not make up for the fact the school is systemically failing to provide young women with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in today's workforce and world.
