This weekend I took 2 Sourdough Classes for Beginners on Saturday morning, then Sunday afternoon. Always very popular, hands-on, and a tasting table at the end before you walk away with your own sourdough starter. Fabulous time with everyone, lots of laughs and plenty to talk about!
I’ve started taking a course learning Xero at Selwyn community college and It has been great so far. The teacher is very engaging and the course content has been what I’m looking for in order to up-skill. It’s also affordable. I will definitely be going to other courses here. Looking around at other courses where you seem to have to pay premium just to learn basic skills, I’m so grateful affordable community education courses and community projects like this still exist and I hope it continues for a long time.
I've taken the Beginners Woodwork Class and the tutor is a very nice person with a lot of skill in woodwork. This course is probably best for people with a good level of skill with measurement or who might have dabbled in wood work before. The first few classes were more structured, so you were able to learn how to use machinery safely and watch everyone else be guided by the tutor. The tutor is on a rather tight time schedule and does a lot for you which makes it hard to learn if you are *kinesthetic like me. Sometimes it is a safety issue and that is fair enough, but often it's because he feels there isn't time and there probably isn't. I am a qualified Adult literacy tutor and it was hard to follow a class where you were expected to 'watch and learn' when everyone is up to a different stage and you're not sure what the heck is going on. Fortunately the tutor does get to you, and I don't regret doing the class even though I found it very frustrating at times. I would try another class but don't think wood work in this setting was right for me. *kinesthetic learner: learning through touch, movement and involvement, not just from listening or watching someone else.
Absolutely amazing Continuing Education programmes and facilities. The 2 kitchen where they have independent chefs come and teach are superb.
Great adult courses, will organized and good value!
