One of our favourite beach spots. We love to come here in summer for a swim and in winter to watch the sunsets. There's always a happy dog to watch no matter what time of day or night we've been there.nThe beach changes so much over a day, and from day to day and season to season, so it's always got something to offer. Some days it's a gentle bay with lapping water and no waves, and others it's a raging surf beach with huge breakers. The low tide leaves a long sandy beach for building sandcastles, while at high tide you can sit on the stone steps and hang your feet in the water.nExcellent accessibility to all but the sand and water itself for disabled people getting to the water means navigating both a set of steps and the sand. It's ok if you're mobile enough to use the steps and handrail, but not so much for 'wheelies'.nThere are plenty of toilets in the park, and a couple of cold outdoor showers for rinsing off the sand after a swim. The kiddy pool, park, and playground make it an ideal place to bring a family, even if the sea is too much for the little ones.nThere are a couple of free public bbqs, but these get so much use on nice days that I've never had a chance to try them. We usually end up buying fish and chips and eating those on the beach instead, or going to Scarborough Fare restaurant.
We went to Sumner today, it was such a lovely warm day so walked to Scarborough along the beach. Went into Scarborough Fare for lunch. We both had the fresh battered fish with chips and a lovely salad, it was a beautiful meal and a great price. Can highly recommend this restaurant April 2024 went back again, took friends over from Australia, we all had the fish and chips and they were all just as delicious as they were a few years ago
Was a lovely walk along the front.hard to find parking though.
Good boat fishing spot to launch
