If you want to explore a massive limestone cave and see some glowworms up close, this is the tour. Our guide, Wi, was very good at explaining the history and facts of the cave and his family's business. He was also very patient with our group, all things considered.nnIf he reads this review, I did check out the bush walk, and really enjoyed it. Thank you Wi!
Great caves! Lots of glow worms and cool rock formations. Guide Lee? was super knowledgeable.
Enjoyed our visit to the Ruakuri cave. Backpacks are not permitted in the cave.
Great experience there. Our tour guide Nathan was very interesting with a delightful sense of humor. And we ve been welcomed at the counter by a very kind staff.nThe tour is long enough, with plenty of explanation, occasion to take pictures, see the gloom worm from short distance, and is also convenient for a toddler in a small trolley.nHighly recommended
Great tour and we loved our tour guide. Small group of 15 people. It was very extensive and cool. You can take pictures. Our tour guide took time to chat and know us. She was very good and thorough with rock formations. Wear waterproof/ shoes with tractions. You have to walk a short trail of rocks to reach the cave entrance after checking in at the tour center. Don’t wear flip flop— you can hurt your toes and have wet feet. Most of the inside has wooden planks/metal walkways. Bring a light rain jacket. Wear a hat if you don’t want water droppings or the “fish hooks” from the glow worms to touch your head. Certain parts required bending over/low clearance.nnWe booked the two caves combo. Make sure you check your ticket and navigate to the correct cave! Parking is on the left side the tourist center was hidden so it is easy to miss. Don’t drive straight to the unpaved road after you see parking lots on both sides… that is just another road leading somewhere else. After the Ruakuri tour, the Waitomo Cave was a big disappointment. I think you can skip Waitomo bc it is redundant.
