The service was good but food was extremely overpriced and average. We paid $27 for just four scallops, and unfortunately they were overcooked. The Thai beef salad was underwhelming as well $34 for a very small portion, and the beef was chewy and burnt. The pad ped crispy pork was okay, but the skin was chewy rather than crispy, and at $37. Overall, the portions were far too small for what was charged. To be honest, the drinks were the only thing worth trying. The food was very average and did not justify the high prices. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed with the overall value and quality.
We spent two days in Ohakune, and every time we wanted a great meal, we went straight to Rice Bar. My friend and I absolutely loved the food! The authentic flavors made us feel like we were right back in Thailand. Good job, guys!
Amazing food with big portions. The fish coconut was delicious and light, the lamb shank chefs special was also delicious and full of flavor. The mocktails were very tasty and not too sweet. We really liked the dessert taster, not too filling and very unique.
Great tasting food, excellent friendly staff good menu selection.nPersonal opinion the cashew nut chicken needs to have more sauce/juice so the rice has something to soak up, mine was a lacking in that department but still ate and enjoyed it.
Second time at Rice Bar, first visit was when they first opened. Overall it was much improved on our last visit. It was a reasonably busy night but the service team let the experience down. Food was good, nice flavours and good portion size. I would recommend the Kumera curry. The wait staff just could not get it together. From waiting 20 minutes to be asked if we wanted a drink to not being asked again and no one clearing plates. Staff seemed to lack a strong front of house person leading the charge. It’s a nice venue, and good food- just need some work on the staffing.
