About

Established in 1932, The Regent Theatre in Te Awamutu is one of NZ's grand old cinemas. Today its 5 screens are equipped with the latest technology to provide a first class movie going experience.

Story

Te Awamutu's cinema, the Regent Theatre, is renowned throughout the country for being one of a very small number of high-quality provincial cinemas.

In addition to an all-round quality movie experience there is also an impressive collection of movie memorabilia lining walls and foyer, taking one back to the early days of New Zealand cinema.

The Regent Theatre has been in business since 1932 (see history). It has been managed since 1974 by movie enthusiast Allan Webb, the sole exhibitor and proprietor. Mr Webb has a real passion for the theatre—in addition to running his business he has published works on the history of regional cinema and specific theatres.

The cinema has hosted New Zealand premieres for movies including Miss Potter, A Beautiful Mind and Her Majesty.

Having celebrated its 75th birthday in 2007 we look forward to enjoying our cinema for many more years to come as a place to go to the movies and a Te Awamutu icon.

Great cinema. There is a large theatre and the small theatres that are really cute. They have food and drinks available. You usually can get parks pretty easily on the road outside. Nice to know your supporting a locally owned business as well.
Our family absolutely loves the Regent Theatre in Te Awamutu. The whole movie theatre experience is way better than Events and Hoyts Cinemas. Atmosphere, customer service and care, family-friendly service is spot on. The quality of the snacks, pricing, and the amazing people that deliver the service are fantastic and worth the experience.
Rang the theater to see if I needed to book for the new Avatar movie. Friendly advice that it might pay to book to make sure I got in as it was the first week showing. Remembered my phone call when I called in to pick up my tickets. Very welcoming and smiling manager and ticket staff. We'll done Regent Theatre.
This is a superb authentic theater right in the heart of Te Awamutu. So much to see and experience the history nearly 100 years old WOW. Great staff, best prices in NZ highly recommend
Great little theatre, friendly staff, cheap ticket prices, had a halftime intermission which was awesome as it was a 3 hour movie, will definitely go back again.
A very nice theatre with a great history and atmosphere. A great mix of movies to choose from . I really like it
Was clean and quick on getting food. Cramped before getting to the theater, this didn't lessen our experience.
Such a cool cinema live the set up with all the history of the place and the staff are really friendly to
Such a neat cinema! Vintage style, great service, I would have given a 5star if they served hot food/alcohol beverages.
