Established in 1932, The Regent Theatre in Te Awamutu is one of NZ's grand old cinemas. Today its 5 screens are equipped with the latest technology to provide a first class movie going experience.
Te Awamutu's cinema, the Regent Theatre, is renowned throughout the country for being one of a very small number of high-quality provincial cinemas.
In addition to an all-round quality movie experience there is also an impressive collection of movie memorabilia lining walls and foyer, taking one back to the early days of New Zealand cinema.
The Regent Theatre has been in business since 1932 (see history). It has been managed since 1974 by movie enthusiast Allan Webb, the sole exhibitor and proprietor. Mr Webb has a real passion for the theatre—in addition to running his business he has published works on the history of regional cinema and specific theatres.
The cinema has hosted New Zealand premieres for movies including Miss Potter, A Beautiful Mind and Her Majesty.
Having celebrated its 75th birthday in 2007 we look forward to enjoying our cinema for many more years to come as a place to go to the movies and a Te Awamutu icon.
