The school's home zone, in which students residing are automatically entitled to be enrolled, covers much of the central Waimakariri District and the southern Hurunui District. Students residing outside the zone are sometimes accepted, as roll places allow in accordance with the enrolment scheme order of preference. At the March 2012 Education Review Office (ERO) review of the school, the school had 1789 students enrolled, including 44 international students. The school roll's gender composition was 49% male and 51% female, and its ethnic composition was 85% New Zealand European (Pākehā), 10% Māori, 3% Asian and 2% other. The school has a socio-economic decile rating of 9 (step Q), meaning it draws its school community from areas of low to moderately-low socio-economic disadvantage when compared to other New Zealand schools. The current decile came into force in January 2015, after a nationwide review of deciles following the 2013 census. Previously, the school had a decile of 8 (step P).CurriculumRangiora High School has developed a junior curriculum based on the New Zealand Curriculum. It's a good school for sure! But like every school could have a better system, hence the four stars not five. Been there almost two years now and it's going good, not much to complain about except a few teachers which is to be expected at almost any and every school . Would recommend definitely compared to the school I originally came from... Don't even get me started on that school!!
We went there for a Highland Dancing event. The hall was an excellent venue with good acoustics and plenty of seating. Food was available from the kitchen and it was a great event. Different events may be different.I haven't been there when it is open but the buildings and grounds look great.
I apoligise for saying this, but I have recently downgraded my review from 5 stars to 2. The reasons why can be found below. It's good for people that wanna make friends. But teachers have made me aware of this, and also I have started to notice, the school is poorly designed in particular parts, some infrastructure is starting to deteriorate as well, luckily to an extent where it's not too noticeable. A few signs led me to this conclusion. First of all, the school's heating system goes on a boiler, which means if it's out of action, no heat will be given to the classrooms which are joined to it, which would mean no heat in the winter And just a quick edit to that, I have found out since writing this that some classrooms don't even have heaters! Should also change to a more efficient heating system. Secondly, the rain we have been having lately has exposed problems with some storm water pipes around the school, predominately the drain by the cafeteria, library and c block toilets. Whenever we get heavy rain, its always a big lake there. Because it's so close to the toilets, I don't want to imagine how much this could expose. Lastly, major building design faults. B, C & D blocks have been around for a long time, so long that they are starting to show their age. They are 3 of the school's 2 story blocks, the 4th and last one is the Admin block, which is newer and their aren't many problems yet with it. One of the 3 classroom blocks is the main Technology building, which is an amazing computer suite. As for all the other blocks, they have nice, tall ceilings, large windows which let a good amount of light through, and they are nice and big. But what are the problems with all 3 buildings? 1. Wheelchair access. Its a big one these days. All blocks should be able to be wheelchair accessible. The ground floors aren't a problem, but the upper floors are. Of all the 2nd story's of the buildings, there is only one elevator to cater for their needs. But what if it dies, or gets taken down, or more importantly, there's a fire? There are no other options whatsoever, apart from the main stairwells, which they will struggle to get up and down. 2. Heating. Won't say anything here, as it ties in with the paragraph I did on the school's heating system a bit above. Sorry i said all this negative stuff, but I had to for everyone's safety. Please sort this stuff out when you have the money. I'm not saying this because I don't like the school, I'm just concerned about deteriorating infrastructure which I am starting to notice.
Rangiora High and their administration doesn't care about the epidemic of mental health within both students and staff. Karen Stewart has been nothing but ignorant and reckless with the issue of rampant bigotry and low moral. She has done nothing but contributed to the stress on the backs of students and staff, and increased pressure on the already under resourced and overworked counselling department. Karen Stewart and administrative staff all have the blood of dead students and staff on their hands, let the school be known for its ignorance before it takes another life.
I believe rangiora high is very good, it has a very large range of Subjects and also has a good counseling program for students struggling with mental health and stress
I vote we all one star it because a teacher roasted me once. Good school. Very inclusive of everyone and a great staff keep interactions real and practical. Students are the real let down here...
