Story

Pukekura Park is a Garden of National Significance, covering 52ha near the heart of New Plymouth, Taranaki in New Zealand.
The park contains a diverse range of native and exotic plants. Various easy walking trails cross the park and meander along the lake sides, taking in the features of the park. Among these are the picturesque Poet's Bridge, which was opened on 11 March 1884. There is also a man-made cascading waterfall and a fountain in the aptly named Fountain Lake. Row boats can be hired for rowing on the main lake. Pukekura Park is also a popular events venue, with a cricket oval where Central Districts Stags cricket club play some home matches and the Bowl of Brooklands amphitheatre. The annual WOMAD festival is held at Pukekura Park.
Pukekura Park is also home to the popular Tea House on the Lake, which has been situated on the main lake since the 1930s.
Pukekura Park is the venue for the annual Festival of Lights, which runs for free every year from mid-December to early February. It has daytime and night time programmes of events for people of all ages, and the festival itself transforms the park into an illuminated wonderland every evening.

The park is beautiful during the day and contains Brooklands Zoo and stunning at night during the festival of lights. An amazing night. Recommend hiring a boat after dark and having a row in the lake as another perspective of the lights and it's just good fun!
Absolutely beautiful place to visit and enjoy the lights every year. Beautiful scenery and enjoyable walk
Went to the FOL2021 What a lovely place for a night walk. Busy with excited children and happy parents. All ages were enjoying the evening. Found the giant that used to reside in the trees maybe 20yrs ago..
A wonderful place to spend a summers night. Spectacular displays as always. A big tick for time well spent each year.
Great park for a walk. Close to the town. Nice Cafe serves a good coffee and nice cakes, snacks or a full all day breakfast if your hungry. Come in the evening in January and see the fantastic light show.
came during festival of light. Very pretty and the park itself easy to walk minimum bumps and massive park, will def come back to check it out during the day
We attended the light show. It was spectacular. So sad we didn't have time to visit the park during the day. We hope to return soon.
Have been going to the FOL Festival of Lights for 33 years now, I'm now 38 It has definitely come along way since then. Still an enjoyable night out and I like that they bring in new/different lights so every year there is always something new/different to spot.
Beautiful park, quiet oasis in the middle of town. There is lots to do here in the summer, yet there are still plenty of quiet moments and corners to be found. The cafe serves good coffee and decent food.
Really amazing! Even though it was nearly the end of the season with few eateries left open. It was great to see so many families enjoying the wonderful efforts New Plymouth has put into this world class display. Too Mark's!
