Stayed in one of the campervan sites which was fine, however, the cleanliness in this place is a real issue and the worst place we've stayed in our month in NZ. We saw the bathrooms being cleaned but when we came in straight after they were still pretty dirty. The communal kitchen was unclean with food all over the place and no soap/washing up liquid whilst we were there whilst in the kitchen we overheard a few other guests complain about the hygiene too. Worst of all though was the laundry room which looked like it hadn't been cleaned for months see pictures - infested with moths and mould, felt like our clothes came out of the drum dirtier than when they went in. I can understand the kitchen and bathroom being unclean if they are short staffed, but the laundry room had clearly not been cleaned for a very long time. Same price as a Top 10 but very poor value. Note that it is also close to the road and a truck stop which you can hear all night. The good thing is the location to the Alpine Crossing.
Great complex, especially if with a group, many different options. We stayed in a motel room, hadn't been cleaned very well, rubbish bin not emptied, bar of soap left in shower, rubbish under couch. Uncollected dirty dishes left outside of rooms. Booked in at restaurant for dinner, had to wait an hour for garlic bread! Badly understaffed. Within walking distance to supermarket and pub.
Great little campground. All the amenities were good and friendly staff. Liked the onsite restaurant which is unique. I had a reasonably priced steak both nights I was there, and the meal was well done. The only complaint would be how long I had to wait for the meal to be cooked both nights...pretty slow. Other than that I'd recommend this campground and would definitely return.
Would be a 5 star review but the Wi-Fi was terrible, a very patchy connection for sure and the Sauna was out action one of the main reasons we chose this lodge for. Checking in and out was hassle-free and the room was really clean, had plenty of beds in the one bedroom apartment 2 singles in the lounge area and a queen/double bed in the bedroom . Had plenty of channels on sky TV . It was quiet and close to the main town centre across the road. Would definitely stay again.
The wi-fi wasn’t working properly, the kitchen and bathrooms were not really clean, the bin in the kitchen was overflowing and there was dirt and food all over the floor. The soap in both bathrooms and kitchen was empty; you’d expect that during the Easter holiday the facilities would be cleaned with all the people staying overnight but this was clearly not the case. For what you pay we expected a better service. Noteworthy details: Bonus point for the inflatable jumping thing sorry I don’t remember what it’s called in English
Overview: Disgraceful. Our room was very tired, dark, poor fixtures, smelled slightly of a toilet, poorly equipped in the kitchen and somewhat clean. We paid good money for a dreadful self-contained room. We gave the room one star because the bed was comfortable. The two-burner hob barely heated up and took a very long time. The kitchen utensils consisted of four plastic items, egg-flip, spaghetti spoon, serving spoon and a ladle, no tongs at all. There was a microwave oven, toaster and electric kettle which all worked well. The dishwashing essentials were grim. A brush, some very watered down washing-up liquid, a heavy cotton wash cloth and a tea towel which smeared not dried dishes. The bathroom had bright green soap still on the soap holder and a shower curtain. There was a shaver point but no power points, and a very small hand basin. There was no fan in the bathroom so the toilet was smelly and the steam from the shower saturated everything. My husband wanted to use the bbq to cook a trout caught in the river, two jets were burnt out, one jet had a flicker of flame like a candle and the other and last jet just worked. The location of this motel was great being opposite a supermarket and a sprinkling of cafes as well as a tavern. A very nice little town on the stunning Tongariro River. Wi-Fi was patchy and television that claims Sky - forget it !! Would we recommend it? No
Stayed only one night. The cabin was basic but very adequate. It was warm, had cutlery& crockery, a tv & wifi. The bed was super comfortable, and kitchen & bathroom facilities directly opposite the cabin.Rooms: 5/5
This was a motorhome 2 night stop on a tour of New Zealand from the UK. After booking a pitch with all facilities on what was supposed to be a nice quiet location months in advance what we discovered was the site was being also used as a truck stop!!!. So 10 meters from our pitch we now have 7 articulated lorries one with it’s engine running. Who knows what time it will all kick off in the morning. We will not be stopping for the second night. It’s a complete joke.
Uncharacteristically for higher-end Holiday Parks, WiFi is non-existent at motorhome parking area. Staff mentioned there is an extender. I guess it wasn’t working during our two-day stay. Other than this, it’s a pleasant campground.Rooms: 1/5
Definitely the best place to have some rest after a long day hike at the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. Nearby activities: Tongariro, Gollum's pool
