Clare and the team at the nuclear medicine department looked after me fantastically.nThey were so lovely and made sure I understood everything that was happening at all aspects of my treatment with them.nLovely people who certainly went out of their way to make sure you didn't just feel like a number.
I don’t think I have anything different to say from what has been already reviewed. Sometimes there’s great nurses and doctors doing their best and sometimes you get some who complain to their patients how tired they are. So tired that when your family member is in a ward or department, that don’t allow you to move without assistance, complain when you need assistance to go to the bathroom. So tired that they will leave your family member in there for an hour before remembering where they left them. So tired that they can’t use their arms to close a curtain between your family member and the person next to them to maintain the dignity of that neighbour as they use a commode because they caught COVID while in there so can’t leave their room. My advice to everyone is, whether it’s friend or family, make sure they have someone who can advocate for them. Check in with them often.
The staff were lovely but this hospital is way understaffed. My aunty got sent to palmerston north hospital because her kidneys were failing and our local dr and hospital is not equipted with the necessary equiptment for her. Waited more then 9 hours and still nothing. Waited so long sitting she had continuous painful leg cramps and feet were swelling. It got so bad we had to take her into the car to elevate her legs, reduce the pain and try and get some rest while my husband waited in thw wqiting room on her behalf. I could not believe we were in this situation with our elderly aunty at 3oclock in the morning waiting in a car for her to gey help. Again this is no reflection on the overworked staff. It is a reflection of a brokem system and understaff.
Palmy hospital is a medical facility that is being pushed beyond its budget and staff that are asked to do more for less.nMental health facilities given a new flashy building but no more staff to help the increasing mental health burden.nnThe local district would rather spend money on rebranding the facilities than helping people and burnt out staff.nnGet a new carpark built that will work with the nearby rescue helicopter service and make sure the singaporian owned company actually does something about vehicle breakins and theft.nnEngage local medical centers to stay open later and guide people to go see them instead of blowing out the wait times at ER/ED.nnGranted yes, half the issue is people themselves but not being able to afford medical care is becoming a problem and its not getting any better.
I was visiting Palmerston Hospital ED Tues 30 July between the hours of 8am and 5 pm supporting a Whanau member.nWe visited the toilets and cafe while there. I could not believe how filthy everything was. This is a hospital which should be clean but wasn't.nI did not want to eat in the cafe the floors looked like they had not been swept or mop for some time. I informed the cafe staff the lady I spoke with just chuckled and carried on serving.nThe toilets in ED and the main cooridor were dirty and smelly. The hostess at the kiosk did not even know which toilets were available or where they were located.nI am a health professional of 50 years and was left apolled and ashamed of the state of the state of our hospital even given the many renovations and remodelling.nI have photos of each of the areas.nI will send to the newspapers.
