Wasn't sure what to expect ... or if they even had tent sites for cyclists. It's a RV park and, apparently, service center. Quiet, with large permanent resident base but unlike some of my previous experiences, this group was generally retired, senior types that are respectful of everyone at 68, I'm also in this age group. Showers will cost you a dollar but very reasonable cost to set up tent. Refrigerator was available for food. Large indoor area for dinning or watching TV ... but closes at 8pm. Gal that checked me in was helpful and friendly.
What a great base to camp. I had a small tent and spent two nights here over Christmas. It had a small but good outside covered kitchen, good showers and toilets well cleaned, helpful staff and there's so much to do in the area.nI biked the Karagahake Gorge to Waihi, well work doing for the history alone. The ride was excellent too. So many cool and unusual shops in town to explore and a beautiful river to chill out by if you want to. The L&P Cafe is good and the walk and view from Primrose Hill was well worth it as well. I'll be back one day for sure.
Although it is an RV center, you can also stay comfortably in a tent.nThere is also a covered kitchen and table outside.nThe toilet and shower were also comfortable.
What an absolutely cool place to stay..the managers while we were there..Milton and Denise Steele were simply AWESOME!! From the minute we got there they were just so helpful I’d highly recommend this place and the hosts…thank you both and see you again soon. Steve and Leanne
