Long overdue review of Ortega. This is based on when we visited in January. We are creatures of habit so we came here 2 nights in a row after a fantastic meal of seafood consisting of oyster, ceviche, mussel - definitely try the teeny weeny French toast fish sandwich - and great wine selection. Place was popular with locals since it was packed on both days. Great vibe too. Shoutout to the owner Davey and bartender Frederico for making us feel at home and for introducing us to some special wines!
Friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Really love all the seafood dishes, fresh and amazing quality ingredients. If you're looking for a good time and great food look no further Food: 5/5
It still deserves the fantastic reputation it has. The cockle+chorizo+spinach was so good I even drank every drop of the broth. The server with the distinctive glasses made everything perfect for our large family gathering celebrating a wedding anniversary
One of the best meals I've had in Wellington hands down....great service, friendly staff and the food is next level refined, balanced and delicious. A cracking drinks menu with a fun vibe....definitely be going back.Food: 5/5
In summary: Ortega offers a relaxed casual dining experience with playful service that lets its execution to do the talking. During the night I had a few different Negronis with various New Zealand gins. Understanding I was into my gin, Lucy brought over all the bottles so I could get a better feel for the native botanicals. Was an extra special touch that was greatly appreciated. The prawn tail tagliatelle was rich and creamy with exquisite prawn meat. Simple but absolutely delicious. The steak frites was wonderful. The cafe de Paris butter had layers of flavour that worked wonderfully. The gnocchi was had a complex array of flavours and textures. Great attention to detail. Both desserts were amazing and capped off what was the best dining experience we have had in the first few weeks travelling in NZ. Special mention to our waiter Lucy who was an absolute champion. She clearly loves working at Ortega and is a star.
Phenomenal. We were a little misled by the 'fish shack' description but we were quickly disuaded of that notion once we arrived. Excellent drink and food menu all around. I love rum drinks, and they had plenty of rum-based cocktails plus more. I had the delicious Sticky Date Pudding for dessert, and I wish I had gotten the paired port suggestion with it! The staff was extremely knowledgeable and welcoming. The ambiance was nice a cozy with an upscale sailing/tiki vibe. There is even a space upstairs for a large party that is nice and secluded.
Beef filled was incredible, oyster was fantastic. Service was great, all the staff were very friendly and polite, a great experience. Only downer was the price, a bit expensive.. great for a special occasionFood: 5/5
The place is full of character and has wonderful menu. We were there on a cold and wet Friday night and the atmosphere was very cozy.
Fantastic food and good service - able to alter dishes to serve gluten free options. For a seafood restaurant the beef was incredible and cooked perfectly to order.Food: 5/5
