The NZ Classification Office is an independent government agency providing education in media literacy and critical thinking, as well as classifying films, video games and other publications.
The Classification Office is able to age-restrict certain content if it's free availability is likely to be harmful to the public in general. We are not an enforcement agency.
You can see our classifications on films and games (online, in cinemas or at retail). We can also ban material for possession or distribution. The great majority of banned content is from the internet, and involves the sexual exploitation of children and young people.
The head of our organisation is the Chief Censor, David Shanks
Our Facebook page is managed by advisors in the office's Information Unit. Please visit our website for detailed information about New Zealand's classification system: www.classificationoffice.govt.nz
