I think of all the beaches in New Plymouth this one is the best if you have small children, there are hardly any waves on a normal day, there are good taps/showers for rinsing off sand before you get back in the car again, and the beach itself isn't that long so you can keep the more adventurous little ones in sight quite easily. Plenty of parking, but can be busy it there is an event on, decent toilets, it's just a fairly chilled place to hang out. Today's visit was because Waterworld were in town, so lots of fun to be had on tjejt giant inflatable.
Nice laid back beach. Some days they have the Seaside Market which is convenient when you want a quick bite and have it by the beach. Plenty of parking and benches.
We just came for a lil dip after the markets and it was gorgeous. I’m a sucker for a flat ocean and this was awesome. Great for a chill swim or if the water slide blow up thing is still there you can jump on there too. None of us went on cos we were short on time but it looked cool!
I spent an hour here one evening in June, 2023. The sunset was the gift that kept on giving. Particularly pretty, and a whole range of colours. A beautiful setting for photography, taking in the atmosphere, having a fish and chip dinner at the beach, or all three :
Wonderfully safe beach, perfect for kids and older folk. Dogs aren't allowed. Awesome activity if a big ship is being pushed by tug boats. For the first time ever I saw people surfing there after the last big storm. Go for a walk slong the Lee breakwater too, just down the road. There's Catch and Co takeaways down there and Gusto restaurant, an excellent place to dine in. During business hours there's White Sails craft shop and Chaddys Bar and Cafe where you can get a good pizza and eat while looking out over the breakwater and fishing boats. You can fish off the breakwater.
