Story

Travel back in time with me as I research and write about this exciting time in history. From William Cobley, who struck gold in 1867, becoming famous for the Shotover mine located in what was to become Thames. To Lillie Curtis, who journeyed with her family to NZ via sailing ship in 1882. And her brother Ashmore who was born on the 103 day journey. They are all part of my story that spans 147 years. View photographs, news paper clippings, and much more. See what I have found on what has become my own personal treasure hunt over the past 61/2 years. Walk with me as I write about the lives of those who have travelled before us. How did these two families meet and survive through hurricanes at sea? The Tarawera eruption. The Boer War and two World Wars that followed. What legacies did they leave behind? Stories like these throughout New Zealand's history should never be forgotten. This is my attempt to capture and protect my heritage. To leave a legacy for my family.
History makes us who we are. Once we understand that, we are free to be all we were created to be.
