I work with the body/mind connection and nutrition to get you back to health and vitality.
After spending my first 30 years struggling to be well in all aspects of my life I started my journey back to health and happiness. I just knew I wanted so much more from my life than limping along, I wanted to soar!
My road to recovery began with naturopathy: diet therapy, bodywork and acupuncture, moving onto individual and then group therapy. Once I was well on the road to recovery I realised therapy was something I was very drawn to facilitate for others.
So...I went on to train and qualify in Therapeutic Massage and then Life Development Counselling at the College of Holistic Medicine in Glasgow (and am trained to psychotherapy levels). I had the privilege to work for 13 years in a Government Funded Centre for Stress Management in Glasgow (LifeLink) where I was part of the core team developing the centre and gaining valuable experience in individual and group work. Additional training and professional development was (and is still) an integral part of my work life.
Each and every therapeutic interchange is a growing experience for me and alive with possibilities. You are you and no one else and I work to celebrate your uniqueness and help you find your own way to where you want to be.
Then... travel and my big OE beckoned and I happily ended up making New Zealand my home. I worked at the QE Health in Rotorua with in patients, locals and tourists, having huge fun and learning many new skills, and as a bonus getting NZ Residency. Another positive and unforgettable experience.
Then...more travel beckoned! For the last 3 and a half years I have been a permanent wwoofer, house sitter and traveller, most recently spending four months volunteering in Peru.
Now...it's time for me for me to settle and get back to using my full skill set which along with Counselling and Massage/bodywork include EFT, Reiki and Deep relaxation techniques.
I still have a passion for my work 23 year on...and because I believe that all who want it should have access to good health I work with the Koha and barter systems and we will work this out together.
However here are some principles to consider around this type of exchange:
1. What are you worth?
2. What are the treatments worth?
3. How much can you reasonably afford?
and....if you are thinking 'how much can I get away with, well you not quite on the right track!
First appointments with me are all about looking at what is it you want to achieve by coming for therapy. Spending time on this is invaluable and integral to you achieving your goals. Together we work out a plan, or at least how the next 3 to 4 sessions will go, primarily by choosing which therapeutic treatments you feel drawn to start with.
For those that are clear they only want bodywork the first appointment process is shorter and you will receive a treatment on the first session. I am looking for a three to four session commitment as experience has taught me it takes the 'body' a little while to understand how to re-posture and become more aware and let go.
In conclusion....I am really looking forward to working with those of you who feel drawn to me to walk with you these next steps on your road to wellness.
Smiles
Stephanie :)
