Matua Saltmarsh Reserve

Great for dog walking but if they love to swim don’t expect them to stay dry or clean.

A lovely walking track / cycle track runs around this reserve and continues on in both directions. There is a toilet block in Carlton St Reserve.

The great majority of Freedom Camping sites, individually, do not leave enough space for anything really other than the older, non SC self build vans. Not those of us who are larger and legal. For example Council will say on their website that 3 vehicles can fit in a particular space, when in reality you are lucky to fit one small RV. Such as this site.There are almost always obstacles, when trying to manoeuvre into them. Pipe handrails, wooden bollards, trees etc.. First time here and only my vehicle could fit in after some very careful manoeuvring. NZMCA law is that any vehicle with gas cylinders, should be at least one meter apart. The council do not go by that ruling with the way that they mark out their sites. We very much appreciate every one of these sites, but more planning really does need to be considered. Please..

Nice place for an easy walk or bike ride. Dogs need to be on a leash
