Maths Craft uses the medium of craft to introduce adults and children alike to a new and exciting way of engaging with mathematics. Join us to crochet a Möbius strip or fold an origami octahedron and experience mathematics in a whole new way.
Armed with knitting needles and origami paper, the Maths Craft team are on a mission to bring maths to the masses.
Mathematics is often overlooked as a subject of beauty and imagination, with many people viewing it as boring, irrelevant, and downright unpleasant. However, by using craft as a medium, we introduce adults and children alike to a new and non-threatening way of engaging with mathematics.
Following the success of the 2016 Maths Craft Festival at the Auckland Museum, the team is taking Maths Craft on the road. In addition to the Festival in Auckland, scheduled for September 9-10 this year, we are planning events in Christchurch, Dunedin, and Nelson.
So join us to knit a mathematical knot, crochet a Möbius strip, fold an origami tetrahedron, or colour a Latin square, and experience mathematics in a whole new way.
Maths Craft is a non-profit initiative run by academics who are passionate about engaging the public with mathematics through craft.
