The trust aims to encourage visitors to the high country around the Mackenzie Basin. To get people outdoors by providing back country huts to stay in.
The Mackenzie Alpine Trust own 3 huts that are on DOC estate in the Mackenzie Country. These huts are available for the general public to use and stay in.
The Trust maintains and service the huts. We provide good facilities, solar lighting and firewood for wood burners in comfortable well appointed huts in back country locations. There is no charge for use but we encourage and appreciate donations which we require for upkeep and insurance of these facilities. The Trust members provide voluntary time and labour to keep these huts available so the public can appreciate and recreate in the high country
