Came here for restaurant month dinner which was $25 for four full chicken wings, coleslaw, shoestring fries and a dessert. FYI: the hot n spicy wings are blow-your-face-off hot! The highlight for me was the crumbed Cloudy Bay clam white bread tacos - each one got better as I ate! No reservations needed.
Came for Restaurant Month. Pretty chill place for a Monday Night. Heard about all the rave reviews about their 2 course menu for $25, and it didn't meet expectations. Yes the burger/sandwich was nice, but the patty wasn't as I expected. It was bigger than the bun, but pretty thin. Barely any fries since they were added just to cover the empty space, and wasn't pilled up on top of each other. Got the Choc Brownie Sundae, enjoyed the ice cream, but not the rest of the elements. Didn't go well together. All in all, the food for Restaurant Month wasn't meeting my expectations. But, I would return here to try their other food with friends.
The best burger and fried food joint in Auckland. Food is amazing and the prices and excellent. Service was great, friendly and fast...the food here is just amazing, your drooling by the time you read through the menu and the only frustrations are not wearing streechy pants and not being able to choose what noms to order because they all sound great. Tried both the mac daddy and ol bae chicken burger. Excellent. Tried the wings. Excellent. Tried the cheesy fries. Excellent. Tried the pork crackling. Excellent. Tried the fried birthday cake and ice cream. Yup excellent too. 4 people, ate till we rolled out of the place, $35 each. no booze just soft drinks. Heard it was great and it certainly was, look forward to going back and trying the others we simply couldn't fit in! Menu photo attached.
Simply just wow. I came here thanks to the blessing known as restaurant month, but even without it 10 outta 10 would come back again and try every little thing on the menu. So the $25 menu offer included 4 huge asf fried chicken wings that you could get in its original form or spicy, with coleslaw, shoestring fries, and a dessert afterwards. First off for the wings, since I’m Asian ofc Imma get em spicy and I have got to say that they actually weren’t. Having said that my friend was sweating tears over the heat so hey, we asked for heat and at least one of us felt it BUT the sauce was freaking bomb asf, as was the batter and the chicken was m o i s t and juicy asfffffff Just reminds me why fried chicken is a weakness for me. Coleslaw and fries were also nice asf. I don’t even know what the dessert was tbh but it was bizarre. Interesting, but bizarre. Probs wouldn’t eat again even if it was free; otherwise decor/place/vibes are cool and service is lovelyyyyy
Can 1000% recommend the Restaurant Month offering of a giant chicken nugget sandwich. Really delicious, plenty of pickles. Fries and malt vinegar mayo a great side. And the sundaes were also fantastic. My friend and I had the caramel pretzel and the strawberry cereal. I'd certainly like to go back to try the last one too.
Lowbrow is the fast and causal brainchild of Kyle Street and Jordan MacDonald of the excellent Culprit - and it's got their playful but careful selection of ingredients and techniques applied to... well, mostly fried fast food. But where else in Auckland are you going to get battered deepfried pickle "chips" with a gooey nacho cheese sauce? It's eye-wateringly expensive for what it is, but you are paying for quality. Quality fast food, sure, but it's well done. A small but interesting selection of trendy low-intervention wines and some edgy craft beers are on offer, service is friendly and efficient, and it's a lot of fun with friends. Seriously not cheap. A treat. It's the slightly naughty food equivalent of a flirty ex that you hang out with once in a while.
When I saw the menu I know I had to try the deep fried birthday cake. We ended up going elsewhere for food but came back just for dessert. We were seated inside and it was a bit loud. It did take a few attempts to flag down the waitress to order. Instead of just getting the fried cake, we went with the Double Down sundae which had it all. The fried cake was almost like a doughnut but not. the soft serve were alright, but though they were a bit grainy. There was also a pudding on the side which was nice. the wafer and waffle cones gave it a nice crunchiness. The fried cake was nicer when hot, it got a bit soggy at the end. It was quite a nice and interesting dessert so would be interested to try their savoury food too.
I ordered the spicy chicken wings with zingy coleslaw and fries. The marinade on the chicken was amazing and they’re the best chicken wings I’ve ever had. It was an indulging half hour finger licking goodness, enjoying the messy yet satisfying picante basting from the chicken. The zingy coleslaw was delicious and a perfect accompaniment with the fries and chicken. To wash it down I tried a glass of Yarra Vally Syrah natural wine, I was in heaven! To finish off, I enjoyed the salted caramel pretzel spiced ice cream sundae. Very memorable!
Delicious? Yes. Great fried chicken? You bet. There's a lot to like about Lowbrow, including their extensive bar selection and we'll chosen tap beers, to the general vibe and sandwich style presentation - burgers these are not. Downside was the general level of salt in the food - my arteries are less happy with me today!
Not bad... small portions that pack a LOT of flavour and very attentive and knowledgeable staff. I found the flavours too strong... the caspaccio over salted and the acid overpronounced in the salad.
