Kauri Glen Reserve

An absolute must do for those living in or visiting Auckland. Spectacular treetop and forest walk that doesn't disappoint. No entrance fees. Plan your day as weather can make a difference and there is several muddy patches and gravel or dirt walk ways that can be muddy after rain. Kids will love this little walk and it is generally easy enough for most fitness levels. There are however some spots where mobility might be an issue.nIf you are able to climb stairs and do an easy hike.. this reserve is totally worth it!! Two thumbs up!!

Kauri Glen Reserve is located in the Auckland's North Shore region surrounded by Northcote and Birkenhead precincts. It can be accessed by Kauri Glen Road by Northcote College, through to Tui Glen Road and Raymond Terrace at the top, and Lake road at the bottom. It is a lovely urban oasis rich with 300- and 400-years old Kauri and other valuable native trees such as totara and tanekaha and some fine specimens of nikau palms. One of the unique features of this bush walk is the 60m long treetop boardwalk which sits 18m above the ground over the Onepoto Stream, giving you a birds-eye view of the trees. Total length of the track network is about 2.0km and most sections are easily doable by anyone from any age group.

Such a great reserve for a stroll and the advantage about this walk is that it isn’t too huge or overwhelming. The main attraction is of course the bridge which the kids love. There are a few other entrances and exits into this reserve so do check out the options to see which would suit you best in terms of travel direction etc. Parking can be slightly challenging on a busy day as they are mostly on street parking, so do be prepared to walk if you’ve got a slot further than expected.

Nice short walk and beginner friendly. I highly suggest to read the trail map before going as it can be confusing once you’re inside.

Such a beautiful area of bush ao close to the city! The new walkway is very accessible, with good grip and gives a great view of the Kauri tops. A great wild urban adventure for all ages.
