As a close resident to Kauri Glen Reserve I am amazed at the response people are making in visiting the reserve and tree top walk experience. I myself took my first look on the early morning of the official opening and was hugely impressed by what has been created. Congratulations go to any that have played a role in its planning and construction. As I write this review there is a constant stream of visitors coming or going from the reserve. I strongly advise any considering a visit to not decide otherwise, as you will be hugely rewarded by what is available. Be certain to use the cleaning stations on entry and exit to help prevent disease.
It was a great short walk that has just reopened with the new Kauri Glen aerial walkway in the middle. From this vantage point, you can see across the large kauri tree canopy to the stream floor below. This is home to many New Zealand native birds and plants. This is an easy way to be at one in this beautiful environment.nThere are many entry points the easiest is from Kauri Glen road, park Avenue or Tui Glen roads. These all have a mixture of street parking. From these locations is a smooth, fine gravel chip pathway that leads onto a new timber walkway that journeys towards the new aerial walkway and viewing points. The tracks are well marked, so it is easy to travel on a loop around the reserve or access other side roads that all lead in or out of the reserve.
Accessible for everyone. Different access points for reserve. The entry itself is on gravel, tread slowly as slight decline, and you could slip. Once you get on the boardwalk, it is made very well. Some parts watch your step as you could fall off if too close to edge. Really good job on the new bridge and the view I'd beautiful looking at kauri trees and a birds eye view of fern trees. It does get busy with everyone bringing prams, pets, and extended family, so awareness is key. Would recommend not to park on Tui Glen as it is a one-way street and gets jammed, I feel bad for residents on that road now. Park on onewa, kauri glen, Gladstone road, or other surrounding streets.
A huge thank you to Auckland Council, designers, and contractors for doing this project with great precision.nnA really good upgrade which will last for many decades.
Awesome new track! Parking is not the easiest but we enjoyed the walk here
