Kai Whakapai is centrally located in the town. Simple to park. The restaurant is more of pub/fast food establishment although I did get to order an open faced steak sandwich. Steak was good as was the feta , fruit salad. Nothing stands out as a strong attribute that differentiates this place from other places. The food was good, service was quick and the prices were fair. I would recommend.
Busy bar on the main street of wanaka. We wanted some place where we could sit, chill, eat and play some card games.nnEven though we went at prime dinner time, we were able to get a table and the staff were extremely nice.nnWe ordered their margerita pizza, warm olives and chicken katsu wings! Everything was really good.nnBeer selection is great too. Try it out if you’re in wanaka, you will not be disappointed.
Honestly pleasantly surprised by Kai Whakapai. The food was great, full of flavour and an overall great environment.nnThe steak sandwich with sun-dried tomatoes was cooked fabulously and levelled up with truffle mayo on the side. The crispy lamb salad was refreshing. The loaded fries with thick cut fries was heavy as needed, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.nnThere’s a reason this restaurant is packed!
Delightful location facing the lake with some heaters on the outside, a cozy yet tight ground floor seating area, and a 1st floor which is also quite cozy. Clean premises and 16 beers on tap including some on tap cocktails. The espresso martini was a nice touch, a bit bitter and limited in quantity compared to usual ones. The hot chocolate was tepid, but the beer was good. The food also appeared lovely, watching thr neighbours eat it with gusto. The location itself is at the end of the strip towards the end of the shore of the lake. Easy access from all the commercial parts and accomodations.
Been here a couple of times, ambience was good. Ordered the gluten-free salmon pizza and loaded fries, everything was okay, but the salmon was a bit dry. Spent about $70, not the cheapest for this level of quality.
