A busy place but they seat us quickly and service was fast and friendly. Really enjoyed the Mexican madness and bacon & egg butty. Bounty smoothie was fire! Highly recommend trying this place for breakfast.

Great food, speedy service from kind staff.nnTwo things that I didn't like were the ventilation or the smoky air from the kitchen and the fish smell cup.
Slow cooked beef, broccoli and carrots were very tasty. We appreciated that they have water still and sparkling complementary. Americano was good- fresh beans. Atmosphere relaxed and portions reasonable for pricing $17,$24,$30 for Small, Medium, Large - Medium is 2 proteins and plenty. Small perfect for a kid 7+, large is easy to share. I would return.
I’ve always only been to Urban Grind for my cheese scones whenever I’m in Wanaka until a friend suggested Federal Diner cos he thinks they make better coffee. Although I’m not a coffee drinker, I am a scone lover.nnVerdict? The coffee is good but not consistent apparently BUT the cheese scone is the best one I’ve had. The crust of slightly burnt cheese just tastes better with each bite. And it was so moist and moorish on the inside, it didn’t even need butter!nnAlthough tucked away in an alley, you still get some view of the mountains, even from the inside. Ooh, and it is table service. With a smile. Definitely friendlier than the former.
