Got takeaways from this iconic restaurant. Loved every bit of it. From keto sushi to crispy tofu, every offering was delicious and full of satisfying umami flavors
Although we had heard good things about this restaurant we were disappointed. We were traveling through town, and perhaps at other times the food is tasty, this was not one of those times. We ordered the large sushi platter for the two of us. The pieces of nigiri were so-so with the exception of the salmon which was very good. What detracted from the meal was the substandard quality of the sushi rice - arguably the most important aspect of nigiri. The nigiri was placed on cricket-ball sized pieces of rice, which was either over cooked or under cooked - it was hard to say. In any event, no self-respecting sushi chef should be serving such rice. We have no complaints about the service, our waitress Emily was excellent, even though she was delivering substandard sushi. We hope it was just a bad night for the rice cooker, but we will never know.
Came here on a friend’s recommendation and did not regret it. Amazing vibe inside, wide selection for every diner, and great customer service. I had the chasu ramen pork belly; it came chock full of ingredients like veggies, mung beans, sesame seeds, pickled radish, ramen egg and seaweed. I love my noodle bowls with lots of ingredients in them so this was fantastic. It wasn’t perfect though; the meat pieces were generous but could be more tender and with more flavour, and the noodles were not traditional Japanese ramen at all. They tasted more like egg noodles. Maybe I’ll try the udon next time!
Wow such a busy restaurant! With such amazing Japanese Cuisine and a great selection of food! Good Prices, awesome friendly staff and delicious food, served quite fast too! Atmosphere is nice with great wall paintings and great seating arrangement, just a bit noisy as ceiling is high and it carries people's voices around. Overall a really awesome place that I recommend to try!!
Really nice atmosphere with an expansive vegan & keto menu in addition to an already large regular menu too. Had a great teriyaki tofu donburri that I’d happily eat again. Vegetarian options: There’s a dedicated vegan menu with many options.
Quite good, frequently packed. The sushi is good and the prices decent. Not the best sushi I've ever had for the price, but average or better then average. Presentation was nice and the service was very good. Worth a visit.Food: 4/5

Absolute must-visit if you're in Dunedin. Top quality Japanese food at really reasonable prices. Great flavours, great portion sizes and friendly staff. The mini rice balls are a definite must-try.

I recently visited this restaurant for the first time and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. The waitress who greeted us seemed to have an attitude and was racist when we politely asked to be seated away from the entrance. She refused to clean a table for us, claiming she had "something else to do," even though we offered to wait. Moments later, she cleaned the same table for new customers who arrived after us. Additionally, the overall environment was overcrowded and noisy, making it difficult to enjoy a relaxing meal. Moreover, when we wanted to order our mains, none of the waitresses would acknowledge us or take our order. We had to walk over to the lady in charge of seating to get any attention, but even then, the wait time was unacceptable. In the end, we left without ordering and went to Takeichi around the corner, which is undoubtedly the best Japanese restaurant in Dunedin. The food and customer service there were outstanding. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The staff's attitude was disappointing, and the service was inadequate. It's best to go elsewhere if you're looking for a satisfying dining experience.
