Janus Bakkerij

Janus is hands down one of the best cafes in Lower Hutt and it has been my go-to café for past 5 years.The food and the selections are always a delight.The steak pies and donut of the day is my recommendation.But in my past few visits I felt like their service has not been up to the mark. During my last visit the staff took away my food even before I finished it.I would have expected the staff to ask me if I have finished it before he takes away the plates. I get that it was jam packed on a Sunday but still would have been nice to ask the customer. Please take this into consideration.

Roomy cafe with beautiful ambience and wonderful bakery items. Had the pie and flat white and both were what you expect good food to be. My pie was the steak jalapeño and cheese pie which was really good. The combination is not a common one, but it works amazingly well.

Janus Bakery is my favorite cafe in the Lower Hutt. These guys serve consistently great food and coffee. They offer a breakfast menu for dining in the cafe area, or you can also purchase from the bakery cabinet and eat that in the cafe, like I did today. I had a delicious and generous corn fritter served with fries. Also offered with salad as an alternative option, but couldn't resist the fries. Great kicker for brunch, and the coffee was perfect!nMy favorite, pictured, is the lunchtime menu, smokey pulled pork enchilada with salad. The salad is optional. I'm not a radish fan, but this salad has pickled radish and it's delicious with the enchilada and Mexican spices in the pulled pork.nThe bakery cabinet is full of eye watering delicious treats and healthy food options, too.nHighly recommend.

Outstanding bakery. Efficient and friendly service. Excellent coffee. We both had the pancakes and they were the best in a long time. Nice bacon and excellent maple syrup. I was not sure about the butterscotch advertised with it, but decided to try it. It was worth it. Portions were large. Very slightly more expensive than some places, but the quality and portions make it good value for money

On busy public holidays you really need to have a better system for those customers who just want to order takeaway coffee and nothing from the cabinet.nI decided I would head to the till because I didn’t need cabinet food and then was completely ignored by multiple staff, who saw me, and even after saying excuse me 4 or 5 times.nLove the coffee but not worth the hassle when you have to wait behind the cabinet line for an excessive amount of time.
