Ichiban Japanese Restaurant Newmarket

Had Japanese Curry rice and fried noodles with my partner on a Weekend lunch. There was only two staffs working in the restaurant. The place is quite, has standard Japanese dining atmosphere. My partner a curry enthusiast loves the curry a lot as it is a generous portion of curry. I feel that my fried noodles is a bit greasier. Overall, it is an okay local Japenese restaurant, but nothing too special either.

This has always been my favorite ramen shop, but now it has not satisfied customers. Not only are the portions smaller, but so are the side dishes. Instead of meat and eggs, ramen noodles are filled with bean sprouts. The fried dumplings don't taste very good either. I went to this store four years ago until I moved to the North Shore in 2021. Today's meal is not satisfactory, staff without service need to pay the bill first, ice water also need to self-help. I've never seen a Japanese restaurant like this before. It's really disappointing.

I don’t know if the owner changed, but the quality of service drastically plummeted compared to last year or two years ago. The dishes were served in an abrupt, careless and impolite way. The waitress splashed water from across the bar counter onto our faces and hands, and she didn’t even apologise! Absolutely disappointed.

First time to come here. A tiny Japanese cuisine restaurant. Food tastes good but price is a bit high. Next time will try the ramen.

The cook and the waiter girl were talking something to each other, but both gave me no greetings and avoided having eye contact with me. Extremely weird and unfriendly moment, which was most unlikely at a Japanese-style restaurant. I was really disappointed.

Just ordered a large amount of food for 14 people. Spent nearly $300. I don’t recommend chicken teriyaki- it’s dry and extremely bland. Zero flavour. Won’t be ordering this again. Not impressed with the service when I phoned to politely let them know. I was only trying to help. That’s all.

Friend ordered Vegetarian version of the Ramen which, according to the menu, can be made vegan. When the dish came out with meat in it. Asked the chef and they don't do that. Extremely rude and unapologetic. Gave my friend back the dish with the meat taken out but clear the sauce was made with meat.

After a long day, walking around the CBD area I was struggling to make up my mind to find a place for a nice meal. Ichiban, hasn't disappointed me. The service is awesome and the lady was kind enough to explain what the dish is and the actual pronunciations which was cool. I really loved all the dishes we ordered. Absolutely fantastic !

Food is just average. I felt that the Kotteri ramen which is supposed to be an ultra thick soup was watered down. Not impressed. Curry katsu was also just average. Would not come again. Its saving grace was the lovely waitress.
